Re: Welcome to the December Exercise Thread

Lucy! I was so happy to see your post and read your news. Thanks our thinking of me 😊, and know it's reciprocated, not just by me  but all of us. Yes, we do become friends here, and I often wonder how you, DH, DS and Lucy are doing.

I'm so glad they might be onto something re: your issues, but what a shame you have to wait until March for an appt. DH issues sound serious, too....will he need surgery? Any back issue is scary, but his are so much worse than most. I hope he can get some relief somehow. That you both carry on despite your issues boggles my mind. Gladcyou have new buddies to join you in your workouts. So glad to hear that DS and Lucy are well. We love Lucy, too. 😊

Yes, job is going well...except for my feet. LOL. The shoes I got that are too big are helping a lot, along with remembering to do squats with good form. I think of Tony Horton every day...he was the one who taught me to keep my weight on my heels during squats. LOL. It makes a difference. I like the work of organizing books, and most of the other staff are fun to work with. I hear clerks dealing with patron problems, and most of the time am glad I don't have to do it. Like intervening when a male patron harassed a female. I haven't worked out since starting the job because the activity at work does me in. I know it's not getting my HR up,  but my arms and legs sure get a workout. I  can tell I'm stronger. Will eventually do workouts on my days off, but for now feel I need to recover on my days off.

I think there'should good job security there...two people just quit, others sometimes don't show up sometimes. So being an employee who shows up and does the work makes me a star. Feel like this job is one I can have as long as I want it, and am happy about that. Am hoping I can eventually do it only 3 days a week instead of 4, and I've told my boss that. She's open to that once current staffing issues are solved. I'll be a team player for now and will fill in as she asks, and am hoping perhaps by spring I can make reduce my hours.

Bopper, how nice of you to clear your neighbor's drive. I'miss sure it will be appreciated.

Laura, good to see you, too. I've missed you. 😊 Congrats on you lab results. Woohoo!!

Mick, how are you doing?

Foxxie, have a good Sunday.

Yesterday, I felt sad all day....no known reason, but it made me a slug all day. I did nothing. Stayed on the sofa with a book nearly all day. Seem to feel better today.

Re: Welcome to the December Exercise Thread

Hello everyone.  Pleased to formally meet you @Iluvlucy.  I love Lucy, too, lol.  Well, it looks like you have a mixed bag going on in your life right now.  I'm sorry for the health issues of you and your husband but happy for that bright spot with your son.  Looks like you're a pretty good walker, too.  I love walking, it's the one thing that is always available to me.

Well, the snow started yesterday afternoon and by morning, my area had 3 or 4 inches.  It stopped so I went out and cleared the driveway, then put down salt.  I had to shovel first and then go out about an hour later to salt because my finger tips got really cold.  I sweated a lot, though, on my body.  It's coming down again now, light but with big flakes.  As long as there are no blizzard conditions, I'm ok.  I'll probably have to shovel again in the morning when it's predicted to end.

Enjoy this beautiful life we have ladies.

Re: Welcome to the December Exercise Thread

Happy Sunday Funday everyone,  snowing here too since 10 am this morning, just lightly falling and it is very pretty out.  I haven't done much today other than football and walked the trail with Logan.  Time to wear the boots, jacket, mitts and hat once again.  I think almost time for the snowshoes.  It was getting deep back there now.  Logan had to stop a couple times to bit the snowballs from in between his pads.  He won't wear the booties, I tried that and he wouldn't even walk with them on, totally freaked him out.  My previous dog was the same way.

Iluvlucy so happy to see you post, I love my birds and have so many lately, with the woodpeckers, large and small, the blue jays, nuthatches , chicadees, and finches, juncos...a lot of variety.    So glad DS is well and doing so good in school, you and DH are struggling with pains and health issues but I'm so glad you may be on to something and have an appt. in March.  You both do so well with your workouts despite the pain and then there is our little girl Lucy, her a dear!

Nomless I have those sad days too, not sure what it's all about but sometimes we just have to take care of us, whatever that leads too.

foxxie shoveling is good exercise, be careful not to slip.  I shoveled twice already today and could probably do it again.  I don't mind shoveling though unless it weighs as much as bricks, that's a little more of a challenge.

Made sloppy joes for dinner and we have the Packer game on.  They are finally showing up to play!  Hubby is not a Packer fan at all, he loves his Lions which managed to pull off another win today.

Cater, Mick D  hi and waving to you all.

Stay warm everyone, be blessed!

Re: Welcome to the December Exercise Thread

[ Edited ]

Yes, nomless, he will need surgery...eventually.  Problem is, right now they aren't sure what thing is the worst or causing the most pain.  Surgeon said it isn't going to be "one" surgery, so even if they do a surgery now, there isn't any guarantee they will fix "the" thing that is causing the most pain.  AND....of course nothing is ever easy for us, he's in the process of retirement which isn't the same for a military person as it is a civilian...we can't just retire.  It's a very long process and him having surgery right now would push it futher out(you have to be medically cleared so would have to follow through with this surgeon until he got the go ahead) and he's already trying to plan things.  He's in class this week for retirement...another thing to be checked off.  Also, he said there are so many things, it wouldn't be a simple fix so he(surgeon) said he'd wait as long as he possibly could too if it was his back.  The day will probably come that he can't wait and he'll do what he has to do.  I know that his 6 to 7-minute mile days and lifting really heavy weights are over.  We did jog 3 miles Saturday morning and he said it felt "okay"...but 3 was plenty for starting out again.

And, yes, DS is getting straight A's and was just selected to be Nurse Educator where he works...he'll give training once a month.  I was worried he's taking on too much with Grad school, working, teaching Sunday School, now this, etc.,  but he said he wants to be a professor(in addition to working in the hospital) after he finishes school and this will really look good on his resume.  Plus it helps him learn more about a topic as he prepares.

So glad you enjoy your job and feel you will be there forever...that's a good feeling!  I'm sure they find you a valuable asset...I know we do here!  Hopefully you have your foot issue resolved and in time, it won't even be an issue anymore.

Yep, Mmsfoxxie, I get some miles in, walking and running but more power-walking lately just because of my walking buddies.  I average over 10 miles a day when I'm not taking antihistamines(they attack my joints and muscles for some reason).  However, I need to get back into HIIT and more work-outs like that...going to do some speed-work today on the treadmill.  My neighbor that is going with me said she's lost 4 lbs so far and can feel her legs and rear-end have tightened up...said she hates it while we're doing it but is loving the results.  Wish I could lose 4 lbs! Smiley Tongue

I know you love your birds bopper...that reminds me, I have to show you the set I saw one day on the golf course.  The real bad pain is gone now that I stopped the Desloratadine antihistamine...just my normal pain from my injuries but they're something I have to live with.  So glad I figured it out, they(Docs) were saying it was from my flare...uh, NOT!   OH!  And figuring out I'm allergic to nail polish has also helped tremendously!  Aaaaccccckkkk!  Now I have plain ol' ugly fingernails...lol!

Hope none of you are snowed in today!  Our island we live on got the 48" dump last year for the big east coast snow-storm...neighbor said it was the highest snow-fall in the country.  They were snowed in for 4 days, plows didn't even come.  Pictures are awesome.

Re: Welcome to the December Exercise Thread

Lucy, nothing is ever easy for you guys, is it? I'm sorry there's no clear path for your DH...lots of hops to jump through and figure out for both retirement and surgery. I hope he can find pain relief somehow. Enjoy looking forward to his retirement....that will free you up a lot and open more choices.

Bopper, it's a shame Logan won't wear his booties. Sloppy joes sound good to me...I haven't had that in a long time.

Foxxie, I don't know if you've much about the Lucy we love....she's Iluvlucy's little dog who is adorable and a companion during Lucy's workouts. That little pup will run as far as they take her....like the Energizer bunny.

I have to work early today...ugh. Gotta go now, will try to check in later.

Re: Welcome to the December Exercise Thread

Hey everyone, it is pretty nice here today after the snowfall we received.  I saw the sun rise over the snow covered trees and it was so beautiful and untouched, the blue skies appeared and I grabbed the snowshoes and headed out.  The trail was so pretty, I got it packed good so this afternoon I took Logan, but ran into another guy with 2 loose dogs and frankly they were quite aways ahead of him and 1 of them showed his teeth at Logan and my dog is leashed.   It made me nervous and when i met up with the man instead of leashing this dogs he just kept walking and calling them and they were not listening.  I was a but uneasy with 2 loose ones and mine and me.   I kept walking and Logan was barking up a storm but we kept moving away from him.  I was pleasant and wished him a nice day and said to enjoy your walk but he didn't respond back.  Oh well, I was trying to be nice despite the situation. I shoveled the deck and the front walk too.

Iluvlucy DH's back sounds so painful,  and you with your  issues and you keep plugigng along, but you have too and you do so well.   After you said nail polish I wondered if that little emjoi thing that has the mani attachments would give you that shine they showed in the demo.  It looks like your wearing clear polish but really your not wearing any.  Just a thought.  So you can't do your toes either?   I almost bought it but haven't.  You sure have seen some nice wildlife on your powerwalks and beautiful birds.

Nomless  hope your day is going well for you and tonight you can come home and rest your feet.   The sloppy joes were good.  Having them again tonight.

Think I'll go out and get our newspaper, enjoy the rest of the day!

Re: Welcome to the December Exercise Thread

Bopper, I'm glad the incident with the other dogs didn't turn into a major problem. Scary. Agree with you that the dogs should have been leashed as they approached you.

Enjoy your dinner. I don't know what I'm having.

Re: Welcome to the December Exercise Thread

He isn't "retiring" retiring nomless...going right into a new career.  So we have another big move ahead of us in a few months on top of the big job search...even that is difficult because there are all these rules he has to follow. Doesn't it seem like we just moved here?!  Oh yeah, we did! Smiley Tongue

.

Yes Mmmsfoxxie, Lucy is a dog but she doesn't know that!  What a pistol....I caught her bullying the cat yesterday and the look on her face when she got caught...so naughty sometimes!  My husband spoils her so bad, I mean it's over the top.  She's pretty popular around these parts.  Some neighbors got a lab to go hiking with, they said "Who knew we should have got a Toy Poodle"!  Their lab doesn't like to go too far...lol!

Yesterday was a busy day for me, never stopped moving.  Oh, my treadmill busted!  I was running on it and it shut off again...had to go downstairs and flip the switch, come back upstairs and I hear it inclining..went all the way up to 15% and wouldn't come back down no matter what I did.  DH fixed it last night but it did the same thing for him, which it should not do.  Anyway, did legs, ran, power-walked with neighbor, cleaned, bedsheets, etc.

Ugh bopper...I hate seeing a dog charging at me.  We've had a few "situations" in the past couple of months...one in particular scared the you-know-what out of me.  I had to swing Lucy in circles in the air by her leash and the dog was jumping in the air trying to get her.  And the lady was offended by me being scared, she won't speak to me anymore!  The dog was showing it's teeth, hair was standing up on its back, etc.  It broke loose from her and charged at us...of course I'm going to be scared...Lucy is only 5 lbs, one good bite could snap her spine.  Plus she had told me before it had aggression issues when she got him and they work with him.  Come on now!

Where is Laura, MickD, cater???  I always think about cosmetics at this time of year also.

Re: Welcome to the December Exercise Thread

Hello, it is another frigid Polar Vortex day here LOL  but I have been outside.  I first rode the Xbike for 45 minutes and then this afternoon I took the trail with Logan, when you go fast you stay warm.  It's only 13 outside but dressed properly and your good.  He had to stop a few times to bite the snowballs out of his paws but he loves the snow.

I cleaned out the fridge, wiped down the shelves and threw out the spoiled stuff that somehow gets hidden in the back....

It's sunny here but like I said it's very cold.   I hope my car starts tomorrow, I have some things in town I need to do.  I have a very old 1997 car and even with the new battery it sounds like it doesn't want to turn over...

Enjoy the rest of your day and keep warm and toasty inside if you can!
