Re: Welcome to the August Exercise Thread

Happy Saturday!

nomless...how is the foot today? Sounds like you really whaled it!

bopper...our rationale for peanut m&m's is more protein from the nuts, almost a health food.Wink

FUTURE...glad to see you.

I ran 8 miles(3 to gym and 5 home) in the pouring rain today and could have gone further except for my foot.{#emotions_dlg.glare} But I'll take tomorrow off and see how it goes.

Did a CF work-out using mainly compound moves at the gym..rounds of kettle-bell swings without much of a swing, kept it controlled...jumping-jacks with overhead press...wall sits with bicep curls...lunges holding plate over head...planks with back rows, etc. DH did legs and "arm".

My one gf sent me at text saying she couldn't lift her arms to shampoo her hair and muscles are sore that she didn't even know she had. My other gf is sore from head to toe but she said she loves it and wants to start meeting me on Wed and Fri's to work-out like that and she'll run the other 3 days. She said 2 hard days is a lot different than 5 or 6 days of not doing that much and can tell a big difference. It really is about intensity, not duration.

So...we might do something fun this afternoon....even though I had another terrible night's sleep. Up all night itching...even with Benedryl. But don't feel tired so I'm not going to "be tired just because I've had less than 5 hours sleep the past 2 nights.Cool

Re: Welcome to the August Exercise Thread

Hi, Bopper, good job on TG.

Future, it's good to see you. Enjoy your down time and napping this weekend. LOL.

Hi, Patty. How great that your gf's enjoyed the workout. I'm sure it's lots of fun to have friends join in.

My foot still hurts today, but it's better this afternoon that it was this morning. I've been doing things around the apt. and standing at the stove. I hope that in another day or two it will be A-OK again. I'm very happy that it's getting better.

More re: my visit with my friend yesterday. A few years ago a guy here opened a cupcake place. He's since been on Cupcake Ware (Food Network) at least twice. I've always intended to go to his place, but have never done so. So that's where I took my friend yesterday. He offers salads, soups, and sandwiches, too, but we opted for just the cupcakes. I kept it simple and got a vanilla one (and brought a chocolate one home). My friend got a root beer float cupcake. Oh, my, were they good. I find that cupcakes are often dry, but not these. The vanilla was light and airy and moist. Really wonderful. I had a bit of the root beer cupcake. I said "Yeah, that's really good" and then the root beer flavor hit me and I added "WOW, that's awesome!" I love layers of flavor and this definitely had that. It was chocolatey at first, then the root beer flavor came through. I wonder why some flavors are delayed? I find that many chocolate cakes/cupcakes are described as dense and fudge-y. I don't like that...to me, they're hard and dry. This guys chocolate cupcake was light and airy, just delicious. He was there (I recognized him from TV), and the place was really busy with lots of staff. It's so good to see a small business be successful. I know the cupcake craze is sort of over, but given the quality of his goods, he may well survive anyway. When I'm in need of a an occasional indulgence, for sure this is the place I'll go.

I plan to just take it easy the rest of the day. I've been napping, too, like Future, in between some cooking.

Enjoy your weekend, everyone.

Re: Welcome to the August Exercise Thread

Morning!

I'm taking today off other than walked Lucy but we only did a mile this morning. My foot actually feels better today so I'm encouraged about that.

It was all I could do to not go for a run this morning but know what I "should" do. Hope your foot is better nomless!!! And I LOVE a good cupcake!

Busy day...SS, church, lunch today...birthday party this afternoon...and potluck tonight.

We didn't go to sleep until midnight last night, even after getting around 4 hours of sleep the past two nights. But...I did sleep better so I'm thankful for that. Lucy let me sleep until almost 6:30 but now I feel like I'm running late!

Good morning. Happy Sunday. I'm happy to report fhat my foot is much better. It continued to improve throughout the evening yesterday, and this morning it feels pretty good. Just a dull ache in certain positions. I'll do some cardio today and see how it feels. Patty, I hope your foot is ok. Enjoy the party and potluck.

Re: Welcome to the August Exercise Thread

Good Morning Ladies and happy August. It has been really hot here in Northern CA. I had to skip my run for 5 days (normally go after work) but yesterday morning I ran 13.5 miles. It felt great to get out again. Today is a shorter 5-6 miler in an hour or so.

Have a wonderful day everyone

Re: Welcome to the August Exercise Thread

Morning, just finished a new dvd I received on Saturday. Kelly coffey Meyer Muscle Up Lift 2B fit...I really liked it. It's an upper body/ a lower body/ and a bonus ab section or you can Chapter it up and do what you want. The point is to do as heavy as your can. 8 reps and 3 sets...Now my problem was my Sport Blocks are way to hard to keep changing out..I mean my first time doing it and I didn't know how much I could really do so I had to keep pausing to change them out.. I either need to ask around and see if anyone has any dumbbells they don't want laying around in their garages or buy some. I need 15's and 20's for sure..I did really like the dvd though. They also used a bench to lay down on and do their flies and chest presses which I don't have but I put my Valerie ottomans together and made a bench..ended with my own Yoga stretches....will walk later on also.

It's only in the 60's here...and sunny.

Having some Greek yogurt and blueberries right now...

Hope you all have a good day!

Re: Welcome to the August Exercise Thread

Morning! Your weather sounds beautiful bopper! It's sooooo humid here, we about died in the weight-room, no a/c and very humid.

I walked Lucy 2 fast miles this morning, ran 1 mile to the gym where I met my gf and her daughter...we did 10 minutes on the ARC's to warm-up then hit the weight-room. Did a Cross-Fit style work-out going from station to station...we were dripping. It was my gf's first time in an actual "weight" room so bench, dips, push-ups, snatches, cleans, bench-press, burpee-jacks on the bosu, etc., was a first for her. Her daughter lifts with her brothers so she helped too. Then we ran a mile on the treadmill using the HIIT style where we did some 30-second all-outs. I just took Lucy for 2 more miles on the beach...it feels much cooler there because of the breeze!!! I did the stairs a few times carrying her and she loves that for some reason...lol.

My gf is hooked and can't wait for me to get moved so we can get in a routine and she can learn how to do it all on her own without my help...she's a quick learn and will be there in no time. She's also going to do the boxing and TRX classes with me and said she'd go from there as far as CF goes because she felt like she was going to throw up today...lol! She said she never thought running at an 8-min mile would be a break for her from other exercise...gotta put-out gf.Wink

Need to go run some errands...just got clean sheets...last time for this room...yay!!! Waving to everyone!

Re: Welcome to the August Exercise Thread

Bopper, thanks for your review of the KCM dvd. It sounds like another good one from her. I hope you can a set of weights you like.

Patty. You and your gfs will have fun working out together. Lucy is sure enjoying the beach. I hope she's learning what critters and things she needs to ignore.

My workout today was moving about 25 boxes of books from here to there. I cut my arm in the process, but my foot feels fine. LOL. It was a lot of work. I'll take a nap ( Future, you're not the only one!) and will relax the rest of the day, then back to work tomorrow.

Ninja tonight. I think there will be a woman competing.

Re: Welcome to the August Exercise Thread

Hi everyone!

I did 36 minutes on the elliptical and a full body weight session using a 35 pound barbell (sumo squats, good mornings and bench presses), a 12 pound dumbbell (bis and tris), lats on the machines, and abs.

Get your flu shot...because I didn't.
