Re: the weight being regained, it's your appetite that comes back. Weight doesn't magically reappear. How a person responds to the return of their normal appetite is up to the individual
@smoochy I know the background of these medications.
I never said they would be pulled either.
My point was the long term effects when used simply for weight loss.Since other medications not related to diabetes or just weight loss have ended up off the market, it's simply a point that some meds work and others do not.
As another poster said her husband did not want to be tied up for life with medication.
Again, I said doctors need to determine which path is the best for their patients along with patients being well informed.

maybe some ppl are doing that. My doctor wants me to do it for medical reasons other than diabetes
@smoochy And that is great for you. I'm sure you made an informed decision with your doctor.
I'm not judging here so leave me out of that.
I hope all who need proper health care can have it. If these injections work, great. If not then research needs to improve for the benefit for those who need something different.
As one whose son and husband both have incurable conditions, two different ones to boot, I completely understand the need and desire to try anything that is approved and appropriate.
I truly wish you the best but please understand we all come from different walks of health issues. We may not always understand each other's situation but I believe posters are trying.
No need to attack. I don't mean you.

I see the discussion is a bit older, but for anyone still considering options - I tried Minimal a few months ago, and it genuinely works. They created a complete plan for me: doctor, nutritionist, fitness, and weekly monitoring. I was skeptical at first, but the difference compared to just taking a medication is huge.

@KCDiva I agree, at first I was not on board, but I know several people including 1 man that the drugs have made a tremendous difference in their life.
My step daughter also took the drug and lost a good deal of weight, she has suffered a few side effects so she is off of it now...no maintenance shots for her. She has not gained back the weight and it has been 9 months.
A healthy weight is important and think of the money saved if the weight was causing health issues.

I lost 45 pounds-it took me 3 years. I counted calories & wrote everything down. Of course I cheated-you have to once in a while. I know that counting calories works....75 years old, did this at age 70

I understand everybody is different and choices are personal. I can only say that fifteen years ago my husband started injecting with a diabetic drug known to cause weight loss. He was diabetic and struggled with weight. He took several prescribed drugs for decades. He regularly saw his doctors. Shortly after the first injection (byetta) I noticed his skin and eyes showing a yellow color. He decided to stop injecting. After a few months he felt discomfort in his stomach and checked into a hospital for several tests. Result, pancreatic cancer. He was dead seven months later. Only telling everyone to please pay attention to your body and any sign of change you must check it out quickly. These are chemicals going into your body and do not always bring a desired result.

@Miliaktar I tried looking up this medication but couldn't find anything on it. Can you elaborate? Maybe the name is wrong?

I'm in the same boat as you. My doctor(s) looked at my kidney numbers, weight, blood pressure, and joint problems and strongly recommended I lose the 25 pounds I gained since I spent a over 18 months in rehab and physical therapy.
So, I've been on zepbound for almost three months. Lost 16 pounds and have about 20 pounds more to go to reduce the weight on joints and improve the kidney numbers. And, so far, it seems to be working, my egfr is no longer registering 3(b) and I can walk further.
Fortunately, the only side effect is the impact to my wallet since I am paying out of pocket. But ... I really didn't want to worry about having to go on dialysis.
It's always a tradeoff ....
