DOES MAGNESIUM HELP YOU SLEEP BETTER?

For years, I took a calcium and magnesium supplement.

Then I tried a new calcium in a liquid gel capsule and was happy with that.

I recently realized the liquid calcium gel cap doesn't have as much magnesium as I thought, so about two weeks ago I tried a magnesium supplement to up the ante.

Well, I'm now sleeping better.   It doesn't make me sleepy or want to go to bed earlier, but I DO sleep about an hour longer, and if I get up in the middle of the night, I fall back to sleep faster.

This really surprised me.

Any magnesium users/takers have any input?

TIA!

@Tinkrbl44 YES!  It has been a blessing for me.  I do sleep a lot better when I take it near bedtime.  My favorite one is Nordic Naturals Magnesium Complex--a blend of different types of magnesium.  I only need one pill about 8 or 9 p.m. to do the trick if I am feeling too awake and know I will have a hard time sleeping.  Bed is usually midnight for me.

I've been taking magnesium glycinate every night for a few weeks now with the hope  it would help my sleep. So far, nope.

Melatonin 5mg with Magnesium Glycinate, Sleep Promoting Valerest & Ashwagandha. It is a blessing to help my sleep

I'm taking Pure Encapsulations magnesium citrate. One scoop is 250 mg. I upped to two scoops.

The magnesium that really 'knocked me out' was Magnesium threonate. It was like a mild sedative to me and I always had dreams with it.  Sadly, after a couple of weeks I notice I had fatigue during the day from it.  Maybe others won't respond with the daytime tiredness

[ Edited ]

melatonin yes.....1 mg is really all i need, maximum 3mg. this helps me fall asleep within an hour AND stay asleep.

magnesium does help when i have restless legs.

i only take these when needed. i do NOT take them nightly.

No, it doesn't help me at all. I toss and turn all night and after too many times, I don't fall back to sleep at all.

I started taking magnesium glycinate for my bone health and noticed it helped me relax  at night so I could fall asleep easier. I also noticed more vivid dreams, too.

Which form of magnesium are you taking?
