It's a vicious circle. Their "physical conditions" are probably caused by being overweight.

@LindaSal, Well said. Everyone is different on how they lose weight. Just because one way worked for one person doesn't mean it's gonna work for another. I would never shame a person.

GOOD for you!!! Very smart way to lose weight instead of taking weight loss meds with ALL the side effects

I said I do not have significant side effects. Weight loss will have enormous impact on several serious medical conditions that I have. Also. When I use the word diet I'm using it in the general sense, ie food intake. My current intake is healthy and sustainable for when I am no longer in need of the medication

Those diabetic turned weight loss medications are a lifelong commitment for people using them to lose weight.

@CelticCrafter   So is every other type of weight loss method.

Once you have a weight issue, it takes over your life forever.  You have to be fully committed to keep it off.

Clearly, you have never heard of the DISEASE of OBESITY. People have metabolic differences and especially patients who diet strenuously have more resistance to losing weight on fewer and fewer calories. The more diets they go on, the more the body adapts to lower caloric consumption . Often patients with weight problems are insulin resistant and have hyperinsulinemia. That condition causes weight gain in a patient because excess circulating insulin causes weight gain through no fault of their own.

The new weight loss drugs break the cycle of weight gain by lowering insulin and appetite is reduced. I know many patients who have successfully lost weight and are able to eat more than they did when they were obese. Not only that the co-morbidities they had before losing the weight are gone and they are no longer hypertensive or pre-diabetic.

nope. That is not correct. The healthy eating and exercise commitments that you make during your time on medication are for a lifetime. The meds are not. At least not for everyone.

I'm genuinely curious about why some of you are so pi$$y about other people's decisions to use these meds?

Like any disease process medications are often for a lifetime. I have taken insulin for Type 1 diabetes for nearly 54 years. Why if someone has a metabolic issue should they be any different?

The inability or stubborn belief that weight is merely controlled by "WILLPOWER." Thus the judgmental and unscientific beliefs @smoochy .

I wish you well, @smoochy.  This probably isn't a safe place to get support which is unfortunate.
