I think people need to get more sunshine.

My derm wants me to supplement vs sunshine due to my risk factor.
Research says that because I am very fair, if I get 5 minutes on 70% of my body every day, I would be at optimal levels. She said my risk is too high for 5 minutes.
It would be hard to get outside 365 days a year where I live. I think I can do 6 months. If i had a deck or private yard, I could easily do it in a bathingsuit.

Sunshine and Milk won't necessarily bring Vitamin D levels to where you need them so having a test done occasionally is necessarily.
There are a lot of symptoms tied to Vitamin D deficiency. DEPRESSION is one of them.
I was weepy, depressed and constantly thinking of sad things that have happened around 5 years ago. When tested for Vitamin D, I was found deficient. I take a supplement recommended by my doctor and felt "normal" ever since. No more depression.....
The body's balance is very important to keep in check....
Thank you for all the important information!

It is pretty hard for most people to get the amount of D3 needed for optimal health from the sun. And, as we age, it becomes more difficult.
I was found to be deficient at a time when I was living in Florida, getting lots of outdoor exercise, and taking calcium/D3 supplements (not Andrew's). If I stop supplementing D3 I become deficient again.

Vitamin D — general information from Andrew (cont.)
Calcium, M2/MK7 and Vitamin D
You can't absorb calcium without sufficient vitamin D. An intelligent approach to calcium supplementation isn't to take megadoses and thousands and thousands of milligrams of calcium. It's too take reasonable levels of high quality calcium and then make sure that you have adequate levels of vitamin D to absorb it, because you can't absorb the calcium without vitamin D. You can take all the calcium in the world but you can't absorb it without adequate levels of vitamin D.
Also, it's better to take calcium with magnesium which is why we have our Calcium/Magnesium Intensive Care product.
And if you really are focusing on your skeleton, there's been some research on calcium and the health of our arteries. If you really want to support the health of your arteries when you're having a regime with calcium and vitamin D, then you also need to supplement with vitamin M2/MK7. That is by far the most important form of vitamin K that we could ever contemplate ingesting
This is sort of the trio when it comes to ideally supporting your skeleton and ideally supporting cardiovascular health: vitamin D, Calcium/magnesium, and vitamin M2/MK7.
Prescription Vitamin D
These days doctors test for vitamin D levels and they can put you on a prescription form of vitamin D in order to bring your vitamin D levels up. Sometimes doctors will even give patients an injection of 50,000 to even 150,000 IU a vitamin D at one time. This is because doctors are finding that in some cases patients vitamin D levels are dramatically low. Even single digits, even below 20 ng per ml. Doctors are giving patients a prescription of 50,000 IU or more to start with.
@bebe777 Prescription Vit D is synthetic Vit D2. Natural Vitamin D3 is never prescribed by prescription as Phamacuticals companies can not patent/ and do not make natural Vit D3. Doctors do not tell patients this. You should take an oral dose of 5000 IU D3 at 10 a day. They are small pills and easy to swallow.

@June222 thanks so much for sharing that info. I wasn't aware that the Rx Vitamin D was the synthetic (and I think relatively useless) D2. That sounds crazy and really sad that D2 is what doctors prescribe.
This explains why I've occasionally read reviews saying that the Rx Vitamin D wasn't that helpful but, when they started taking Andrew's Vitamin D3, that their Vitamin D levels shot up.
lol, i'm really surprised that Andrew didn't mention that doctors prescribe the synthetic D2, becasue he's usually so thorough with his information.

There's probably a reason he doesn't. Either legally or because he doesn't want to take down doctors too hard lest the people on the fringe run in the other direction.

That is so true about the RX Vitamin D. Another reason to scratch your head over what Drs prescribe. You should be taking D3.

Andrew Lessman knows FAR more about vitamins than supplements than most physicians.
