Tubes in ear

Has anyone had a tube put in their ear? My right ear has water in it and is stopped up. My ENT suggested using Nasacort three times a day for six weeks and come back and if it is still stopped up, put a tube in. This is scary to me. I have 80 percent hearing in my left ear now and 50 percent in the right ear.

I haven't but a neighbor's little boy (year old or less) had severe water in his ear (or ears). Tubes were used to drain and it was very successful. That was a decade ago so imagine this procedure has improved - like most medical issues.

two of my children had this procedure in both ears when they were younger.......around 10 years ago or so. it turned out great for them. once those tubes were in they stopped having frequent ear infections. one of my children the tubes naturally fell out. the other one had them removed once they could be seen easily in the outer part of the ear canal.

I talked to my son last night and he has the same problem. Saw the ENT yesterday and got a script for methylprednisone, a nasal spray and told to take mucinex. He mentioned he could pierce the ear and the problem would be resolved. If it had been me, I would have gone that route. I don't take steroids, and was upset my son was put on them. (I have three boys and they all had ear tubes when they were young.) He said the congestion was from a virus he'd had for several weeks.

There must be an ear virus. My interior right ear feels itchy, aches and is damp. One of my neighbors had a fungus growing in her ear. I feel really tired/non-productive today which is bad because today was my only day to get the housekeeping done, ect. I will look around for Mucinex in the medicine cabinet. I do not see myself going anywhere.

My Son had ear tubes 19 years ago - with outstanding results. One tube fell out and the other tube was taken out with tweezers by the Doctor.

Understandably, it is scary to have diminished hearing in both ears. However, there should be nothing scary about putting a tube in one ear to alleviate the pressure and blockage, which will help prevent further hearing loss. Whether tube placement is temporary, or permanent, it will make a positive difference in your situation. Best wishes to you!

I won't be of much value to you as my experience was when I was quite young, but I had tubes in both ears. I had these placed and my tonsils out at the same time when I was six. My mother said both of these procedures were most helpful for my severe asthma/allergies. I remember while I had the tubes in place, when washing my hair I needed to hold forms over my ears while my mother actually did the washing so no water would enter my ears. This was performed forty years ago, so I am certain things are much more progressed now.

When my younger son was 5 years old, he also had water buildup in both ears. We had the tubes put in both ears, and happily, all worked out well. That was over two decades ago.

He was almost without hearing, and the tube operation saved the day. Best of luck to you!
