Take Miralax daily and that should do the trick. That is what palliative care doctors order cancer patients who take heavy duty narcotics for pain.

It is a seriously bad idea to take laxatives every day. You get dependant on them. I am not terminally ill like the patients you mention.I expect to be around for a long long time.

One capul of Miralax, two heaping teaspoons of Metamucil plain or sugar free mixed into 8 ounces of some kind of juice.  Yes I'm dependent on it.  Much better than the alternative.  It will take a few months to less the gas effect of the Metamucil.

If you continue to stay bound up you may have to reduce your expectations.

Whenever I have had surgery, I was told to take a stool softener every time I took a pain pill.  No problems.

I have IBS and need to do everything available to be successful at this and avoid constipation.

Prune jam (Amazon) works quickly for me. In addition, I have been increasing my fiber intake weekly.

The scare tactics of becoming dependent on laxatives was so overrated it kept me from doing anything.

Miralax, 2 capfuls daily, sipped all day long (I can tolerate two days of this tactic) works for me, in addition to the other stuff.

I take norco, and was told no laxatives. Just stool softeners and natural fiber.

@tansy  I tried this a few days ago when we were going to an evening event & I wanted to take a pain pill so I could enjoy my evening out. It worked perfectly!
