Re: This Is a What 2000 Calories Looks Like

Wow, three Whoppers!  I'm not all that into food, but I bet a lot of people out there could easily eat two whoppers. The large McD fries was an eye opener too.

I haven't looked at the link yet, but I'm amazed that so many people say they don't come near 2,000 calories a day.  I know I do.  And, while I couldn't eat 3 whoppers, I could eat 2.  I don't, but I could.  I'm 5'4" and 130 lbs.  Not skinny, but not fat either.  I can't imagine how so many of you are eating so many less calories than that.

Hey Citrine!  Smiley Happy

I would say that I consume 1,200 to maybe 1,400 calories on a big day.  Sometimes less, though, also.

But, I'm not at all active anymore so it makes sense I guess.    When I was younger and very active I probably didn't eat much more, if at all, than that.

I guess the main thing is that everybody's system (geez, I can't remember the basic word that goes there) is different.

I was watching one of those shows the other day about this lady who was super morbidly obese and she was saying that she used to eat 60,000 - yes, that's sixty thousand - calories a day.   That's hard to imagine for sure!

Oh my goodness!  I just realized that that is a whole month's worth of food, using 2,000 calories a day, in one day.  Anyway, the good thing is that she got herself going and lost most of the weight, became active again, and started living her life.  She seemed really nice.

@Citrine1

I think that too many are counting on their electronic widgets to be 100% accurate. If 2,000 seems like way too much?  My thought is that most who said that number is way outta sight.  There might be some here that are thin as a stick, or maybe are not using their large muscle groups enough.

I have never counted calories when it comes to my chosen weight. I go by how I feel/what I want to weigh, and how things fit. When I want to lose some fat I put in more time and/or distance, as opposed to compromising my body's nutritional needs.

I know nothing about a whopper or big McD, as I quit meat before they were born. I know my body and will stick with my methods if gaining or losing body weight.

For me, the film shows you can eat a lot more fruit and veggies for 2000 calories.  If I eat less my body hangs onto the fat.  Eating as well as exercise creates a faster metabolism, so it is a good thing for me to eat lots of fruits and veggies as that is the mainstay of my diet.  It is a delicate balance of quality and quantity....If I eat too little or too much, my body will suffer the consequences.  Dieting is not as simple as calories in/out....  As long as I've detoured into diet, I may as well add that research shows that stress will create a physiological condition that will suppress weight loss.  So stress management becomes imperative if losing weight is a goal. I think bodies and personal preferences  differ and everyone has to find what works for them.  Thanks for sharing the film.

John there was not a point to be made.....the title says it all. If you are not wanting to open the link then so be it. Why do you have to be so gruff about it? Why do I have to have a point?

Gruff? Ok. I do not open links put up by contributors on these forums. Point?  You don't have to have anything, that is your choice.

Re: This Is a What 2000 Calories Looks Like

I have a disordered eating satiety mechanism, and have dealt with it, poorly or well, since I was a pre-teen.

SO, I could easily eat 4 or 5 large fast food sandwiches in he blink of an eye, then look for something else to finish my meal off.

I don't choose to do that. 1,000 or so carefully chosen, nutrient dense calories/day work just fine for me, and that's what I eat every day.

@violann  I hope you won't mind if I tell you that I find your story of weight issues and your successful battle against them to be inspirational!!  I really enjoy your posts and even though I don't have a weight problem, I am always looking for role models that can keep me on the correct path!!  I am 5'6" and 125 pounds, but I know that I could easily slip into an unhealthy lifestyle without stories like yours to remind me of the right things to do.  I think we can all gain motivation and strength from the victors!!
