just enjoy your life for as long as can healthy....
Never believed I was avoiding my demise by doing positive things for my body and mind. As we've all probably read: "It isn't the destination, it is the journey"!
The more positives done by most, the more pleasant that journey. Is that true for everyone? Of course not, but those that never try, could possibly miss this great experience. I know for sure that I would.

Those are lovely sentiments but...you drove the point home:
"...as long as can healthy.."
I'm interpreting that to say '..as long as you can be healthy.."
And that's the key.
Living people are 'dead' at 60-70-80...just waiting for the
'Grim Reaper'. Lord...what a miserable life. I want to thrive
until my last day & until my last breath.
And certain nutrition & lifestyle can make that happen.
Why would one want less?

I'm IN!
I can't get enough of Dr. Esselstyn....and I'm really diving into the works
of Brenda Davis & Dr. Pam Popper. Love those ladies.
And I'm anxious to learn more about Will Tuttle..which you mention
on several occasions. Thanks for mentioning this!

Not sure what you are battling, but I wish you the best. I also have no idea what you mean when you say: "My body apparently didn't appreciate it". I am sorry to read this not understanding the why of it.
My personal life was/is just the opposite. Had I not done the positive things for my body I would probably have died in 2002, or from a different type of death in 2003. Subsequent to those years, there were 6 more brushes with death. Had I not lived my type of lifestyle, I may have experienced just the 1st one.
Hopefully whatever you are fighting now I wish you the best. As I have said on this forum many times, optimism was, and always has been my best friend during those 14 years of my life.
My very best to you,

I agree and also think that everyone's idea of a great journey is unique to them.
Mine just happens to include dancing until I keel over and end up on the big dance floor in the sky!
With a lot of deadlifts thrown in. ![]()

You mentioned 'life is meant to be lived.'
To me, that spoke volumes!
Life is meant to be....ENJOYED.
If you're just 'living' your life through 'moderation' (whatever that means) and common sense (over 1/2 the America's population is obese & diseased), obviously the population is not doing moderation or common sense the right way.
Genes play such a small role with our health.
Family HABITS are what plays a big role.
People get those 2 things confused all the time.
The 'there is no get out of death' free card.
What a sad life one lives if they wake up every morning thinking
life is Half Empty. Of course we're all going to die.
But to continually eat cr.ap all day thinking it's moderation or
common sense or doing things which actively shorten one's life
is only making things worse because healthcare has a pill to keep
you living longer when in reality, you're DYING longer.
People go around thinking they are going to drop dead in their sleep.
Wrong. It's rare people have a 'peaceful' death.
And it's sad people don't want to improve their life situation.
I'm glad we have a group of posters here which have a
positive outlook on life...thank you, @phoenixbrd ,
for bringing this information to light!

I think everyone here knows that @gardenman did not mean just "existing" when he said life is to be lived. Trying to say so is disingenuous and self serving.

@haddon9 wrote:@gardenman Wonderful post & so true! It's all how you look at life.
My mother is 93 and her close friend just passed away last week. All of her friends have either now passed or moved on to assisted living. Being in your 90s to me really isn't so great unless you have a good social support system. Mom is down in Fl and refuses to move up here where I am in PA. She has aides or paid companions for support but it's not the same as being independent and having friends & family close by.
I would rather enjoy what I can in the here and now rather than hoping to live a very long time. When an opportunity to do something that I've been wanting to do comes along as long as it seems reasonably safe I go for it. I have friends who can be too cautious...they are waiting to go on that special trip because they think that they have a lot of time to do it in the future. Once you're of a certain age the future is a lot shorter than it was and time certainly goes by faster. Enjoy life!....within reason of course.
This reminded me of my grandmother who lived to be 96. For at least a decade she fell into a depression, for a number of reasons, but the one I remember her speaking about quite a lot was having to watch her friends and peers pass on.
My great-grandmother lived to 101 and was cleaning house and cooking until her 100th year. She was little spitfire, that woman. And I think she ate whatever the heck she wanted.

Many of the claims, including this one, (thriving until your last breath), for your chosen lifestyle are, sadly misleading. I am dismayed at the continued recklessness of the one-size-fits-all proselytization.
Knowing the futility of attempting to discuss other nutrition or lifestyle information once this particular topic has been introduced, nothing follows.
