Re: Supplements for Arthritis

I wouldn't take Meloxicam again -- ever, for me.  Had major side effects!!  Doctor told me not to ever take again also.

Re: Supplements for Arthritis

I just have arthritis, not RA, but I have looked for clinical trials that were definitive and can't find any.  Can anyone steer me?  SAM-e could be a candidate?

My recent heart attack was blamed on Meloxicam.  I don't know how the cardiologist could say that with any certainty.  I have other risk factors.  But, I can no longer take that drug or any NSAIDS.   My hands HURT!  I can not take turmeric.  It actually causes inflammation :/  What are your tried and true supplements for inflammation?Thank you

I know you said you want suggestions for supplememts, but can you try Aspercreme with Lidocaine ... and try it as a hand cream?

It's really very helpful for athritis in your hands.

I second Aspercreme roll-on w/Lidocaine, I have arthritis pain in my left shoulder joint, this stuff works great

LOL, I have lidocaine roll ons in more than one room in th house.

Why I found it especially helpful is that TOPICAL PAIN RELIEVERS work very quickly ... in 15-20 minutes.

My best guess is they reduce pain by about 35% ... meaning you can take less oral pain relievers.

Here's what I use for arthritis pain:

Deep Blue proprietary essential oil blend (very effective)

Because inflammation symptoms are basically caused by influx of blood to combat offending agents...so decreasing blood flow is one way of thinking about curbing pain.

Ice (closes off blood vessels)

Fish oil

walking/light exercise

eating non-inflammatory foods [avoid gluten, coffee, nightshades, dairy] Eat: fish, veggies (green beans/broccoli/celery) ...notice how foods make us feel... I cannot eat chocolate/drink coffee/ drink alcohol/ potatoes/ eggs.

I mostly take Andrew Lessman supplements because I know for a fact that the "fillers" they use in manufacturing cause me problems.

I read previously that you take LDN, my doctor just prescribed it for headaches and nureopathy issues. I hope this is the miracle I have been waiting for

Collagen
Cut out sugar
Don’t spend a lot of time holding your cell phone. It’s causing hand issues even in younger adults.

Someone here said to try rubbing castor oil on arth areas, I am using it now on my knee, good results, I bought the roll on from Heritage . My DH swears by the arth cream from Boiron.

@Shelbelle   @monicakm

Boiron also has homeopathic pills for arthritis.

I haven't tried it, but may do so.  Has anyone here tried them?

Re: Supplements for Arthritis

@Kachina624   I agree that I can't continue to use cortesone to ease my pain on a frequent basis.

As an aside, I do feel some pain relief today, so that's a good thing!

I have IBS so ANYTHING that "hits my system" is ALWAYS reflected in my trips to the bathroom.  Today, for the first time since getting the injections, I had a reaction in the bathroom, so I KNOW that my body has absorbed the Cortisone.  We'll see how I do from here.  I know how to "manage" my bathroom responses to different meds so I'm hopeul that perhaps I'll get some benefit from the Cortisone.

Of course I have but I'm also asking here as we all do on these forums.  The drug he wrote a prescription for was $1,700 a month. Nooo thank you.

@monicakm apologies if this was suggested already.  A lot of manufacturers of expensive medicine offer coupons.  I would google the medicine and see what turns up.

Re: Supplements for Arthritis

Per my doctor, I  take 1 or 2 Advil per day if needed for my achy body due to arthritis.  Some days I can manage without but there are some days it just hurts too much to accomplish anything.  I also do Essentrics exercises via YouTube.  There is a nice gentle one for pain. Moving around helps alot.  So does a hot shower!
