My 90 yo mother had her right shoulder replaced this past June and had her left shoulder replaced 6 years ago. She did not require PT after either surgery and has full range of motion with both arms.  I'll be honest with you. The first few days after surgery were pretty painful for her but by Day 3 her shoulder pain was gone. Her recovery time was approximately 8 weeks. Both times she wore her Shoulder Sling/Immobilizer until her first Post Op appointment.  Doctor told her then that she did not need to wear it 24/7 - to wear it when she was out in public, as usually people will take notice of someone wearing a sling, cast, etc. and likely to be more careful - but she did not need to wear it at home.  She wore button up tops and zippered dressing gown when at home.  Good luck with your surgery!!

@TootyJane- thanks for the well wishes!   I appreciate hearing about your mom's recovery.  If a 90-year-old can do it, so can I !!   My surgery was postponed 2 weeks - dang it! - so I have longer to worry about it now.  I hope my healing is as fast and comfortable as your mother's was.  Thank you.
