I had a severe case of this awhile back and had for many years but thanks to my excellent physical therapist, I no longer suffer from it. He gave me great exercises to do at home to help prevent it and to do if I ever have the issue again. I'd really recommend a physical therapist. I am so thrilled not to have that pain anymore!

I totally concur. I also suffered from it after a car accident. PT helped so much and even 15 years later, I still do the exercises for my back daily. I lift free weights at home and never have had a recurrence. Back exercises I do are simple but so effective. It just takes me about 15 min. a day, and I do them first thing when I get up in the morning.

Good luck to you. Sciatica is treatable and you're doing the right thing.

Your doctor visit should rule out Piriformus Syndrome and Iiotibial band Syndrome. Piriformus is awful, but fortunately, not as difficult to treat. Hope you are feeling better very soon!

I just go to the chiropractor for an adjustment. Sometimes it takes more than one. stretching can help also.

If it is Sciatica, the right type of stretching exercises will help in reducing the pain, because it will stretch out those muscles that have a death-grip on your nerve. Try googling "Williams Exercises." Here is one link, from LiveStrong:
