@hoosieroriginal it might help if you tag the person you are directing this question to?

@HappyDaze - should be clear I was responding to the OP - she's the one who asked the original question.

@hoosieroriginal I AM the OP and your question doesn't really fit my opening post so that is why I asked. Clearly if you actually read my OP you can see my confusion.

I've been taking D3, 2,000 iu, every day now for a year.  I don't see a real difference . . . but then I also have severe osteoporosis and other AI diseases, and never really know which disease is causing what.

Do you know how much D3 your neighbor is taking?

@LilacTree - I think she is currently taking around 1200 iu, but before that was only taking around 400.  Her poor fingers are so disfigured from RA.

Re: Rheumatoid arthritis- suggestions to help ease aches/pain

I couldn't agree more with sidsmom regarding diet. In particular, I had no idea how HORRIBLE sugar is in regard to our health, other than contributing to weight gain. I was getting steroid shots regularly, between my fingers for RA, just so I could move my hands and lift my arms. My neck and shoulder pain was nearly unbearable from inflammation, I became exhausted doing the smallest task, and I lost interest in everything I loved doing, mainly because it hurt to move. All the while eating insane amounts of sugar and processed foods and deciding I guess this is just what middle age feels like.) But in January I decided enough was enough. I gave up ALL sugar and processed food completely, though I do have the occasional piece of fruit. I eat a low carb diet, drink lots of water, have dropped 40 lbs., and I haven't needed one steroid shot since then.

So are mine, mostly on the right hand where they all veer to the right.  But left hand is going to go too.  I have read that eventually they will be so stiff I won't be able to use them at all . . . and I'm too old and immune-deficient to risk surgery (which is only 50% successful anyway).  Toes are starting to go too.  RA is eating me up.

Wow.  I'm so happy for you!  I am almost a vegan now, I eat no meat of any kind, no dairy either.  Stomach issues prevent most vegetables and fruits.

I try to eat other foods that are high in protein because labs showed very low protein (I wonder why).  But sugar is hard for me as I am addicted.  I do try to keep it minimal but occasionally binge on dark chocolate.  The foods I can eat with no payback in pain and exhaustion or stomach issues fit on an index card.

@LilacTree- I'm so sorry for your pain - I know my neighbor is  in horrible pain everyday.  I feel so sorry for her because her husband just doesn't understandand leaves her long lists of things he wants her to do during the day and it makes her feel like he thinks she's not pulling her weight around the house.

@hoosieroriginal

Yes, pain is a way of life for me, plus I broke my shoulder two months ago and I think I re-injured it in the shower two days ago.  Have an ortho appt coming up next week.

My kids try to do the best they can for me, but I still try to do too much sometimes because I get so sick of being "disabled" (and disfigured).  What's the point of living a long life (I sometimes think).  The thing that keeps me going is my love for my family.

My heart goes out to your neighbor and all of you who are living with chronic illness and pain.

@LilacTree - I was wondering how you were doing with your shoulder.  I try to be soooo careful because I have so many friends breaking bones lately.  Hope you haven't re-injured your shoulder!  Good luck!
