I am not giving medical advice, merely stating why I use berberine. I was thankful to a few posters who discussed berberine, so I could research and discuss with my PCP. @SilleeMee is a wonderful resource and takes time to answer questions.

I am genetically predisposed to high cholesterol, which dietary changes did not resolve. After years of PCP advising I should take a statin, I finally agreed that nothing I was doing was lowering my cholesterol. So I discussed with my PCP about taking a smaller dose statin in conjunction with berberine and rechecked my levels in a few months.

So I take 2- 3 beberine daily and 10 mg of statin. After a few months, all my cholesterol numbers went down significantly (approx 100 points down). I had no side effects. One side effect of statin is a rise in glucose....mine went down, not up. PCP said keep doing what you are doing.
