It’s the fat in the diet causing blood sugar issues (and no fiber with

these drinks)

Fat causes insulin resistance.

Remove the fat & become insulin sensitive....and reverse T2 diabetes.

@phoenixbrd- so are you recommending the Lara bar or something else??  Nothing was named at the beginning of your post!

The Lara bars I have seen have very little protein, and a whole lot of sugar and carbs.  They are not something I can eat with diabetes.

I  also cannot eat oatmeal - too high of carbs compared to protein.

@Nightowlz I keep these on hand to use in a pinch (very infrequently) as I adhere to a WFPB program and I can't even remember the last time I used either.  I also don't subscribe to a "high protein" lifestyle.  But I realize all of us are at different places and if I was to recommend a protein powder, these would be it.  I did a lot of research looking for a vegan protein powder made with ethical considerations when I would use one for a meal with lots of fruit, greens, and flax seed.  As far as bars go, they have rarely been a part of my plan because of all the additional ingredients.  Again, years ago I believe I did eat some Lara bars because I believe they were made with whole food ingredients.  I believe these products are a better choice than the alternatives in their categories. There are lots of recipes to make your own bars that taste better and nutritionally superior.   I wish everyone well and good health.

What is the protein/carb ratio you are looking for?

@HerRoyaLioness Patticats asked for a protein shake recommendation...

@PatticatsVega or SunWarrior.....for many reasons.   Each of us has our own opinions regarding protein requirements.  These two powders on hand in the cupboard but use infrequently in a pinch.  They taste yummy and have a nutritional profile that is acceptable to me.

These are the two I haved used in the past.

Re: Protein Shake Mix Recommendation?

@software- I don't really have a specific ratio, but the higher protein the better.  Cooked oatmeal has 27 gr carbs, 6 gr protein and 4 gr fiber.  I know from experience this would not be good if this is all I ate for breakfast.  Besides not being satisfying to me, my blood sugar would spike, it would not " hold me".  If I added an egg it might be ok.

@patticakes, personally I use Sun Warrior Warrior Blend. I have the chocolate, vanilla, mixed berry, & mocha flavors. I order directly from their website, where they frequently have great sales. You also earn Medallions on your purchases that you can apply to future purchases: 1 Medallion = $1.

Re: Protein Shake Mix Recommendation?

@patticakes I have found that the Slimfast Protein shakes (Advanced Nutrition Meal Replacement Shakes) works the best for me. It is in a can and a powder that mixes easily.  It gives me 20 grams of protein, 5 grams of fiber and 24 vitamins and minerals. It is low in fat and I make mostly the Mixed Berry Yogurt with a banana and almond vanilla milk for breakfast. I add 5 ice cubes for thickness.

I have to be very careful of what I have due to my pancreatitis and flare ups. I have never had any problems with this. I have found that I am feeling better. Since my hospitalizations last year and weight loss this has helped me a lot . I do not take it for weight loss.

I have enjoyed the taste very much and you can get vanilla, and chocolate as well as the Berry one. It is $12.99 and has 12 servings but I usually get about 18 from one 11.1 oz can. This is a meal replacement and I do not hungry after this as some. I buy mine either at Walmart or Price Chopper near us. I have used this for over 8 months and really am pleased.
