Is it recommended that every one take this, or are there groups of people ,that should not?

My doctor recommended to take probiotics when I'm on antibiotics. I don't take them otherwise because I eat a diet that maintains a healthy gut.

I am not aware of any such condition where a probiotic would be detrimental.   I personally take a simple, cheap, acidophilus capsule as my probiotic—-no high formula, high dollar one for me.

I have taken probiotic and prebiotics for 20 plus years.  No harm to take and can only improve your heath if it is something you need.

I take probiotics.  The one I take is dairy and gluten free.  Both my Gastro doctor and the holistic people at the health food store I go to recommended them for me.  I figure if those two can get together on something it must be good for me!!

@goldensrbest-

Go to the national institutes of health website and look up probiotics. Lots of good information including side effects and people who should not take it.

I only take acidolpholus when on antibiotics. I think using it every day gave me uncomfortable stomach things😑-

And unless I"m wrong, years before acidolpholus became the more expensive marketed "probiotics", it was just plain ol acidolpholus, bought inexpensively in any vitamin isle, thoough it might be harder to find amidst the row of overpriced probiotics.

I never thought about taking a probiotic until my trainer and my doctor both recommended it.  I take Peptiva with a sleep supplement, and though expensive, I feel better than I have in a long time.  I was always skeptical about such things, but I am very pleased.

The next time that I hear salt and ice together, it better be in a margarita!

If you only need acidophilus, you can get that from live culture yogurt and certain other "milk" products.

If you eat a good diet and are not otherwise compromised, it's unnecessary.

Once, when I was on antibiotics for a severe ear infection, doctor recommended probiotic yogurt.

Otherwise .... that's the last thing I need!  My digestive system works really, really, really well!

For thousands and thousands and thousands of years, mankind has gotten along just fine.  The closest thing would be the introduction of beer in ancient times, followed by cultured milks and cheese making.

Aside from those who have a known deficienty brought on by antibiotic use, etc., it's my personal belief that this is as close to a scam as one can get.  I cannot imagine the humongous profits that industry has made, which is not regulated by the FDA, so no efficacy stats are available.  It boggles the mind.

Just about everyone seems obsessed with their bowels and flora.  If you have a REAL issue, go to your doctor.  If you're going to cleanse, know that you're KILLING MILLIONS of GOOD bacteria, therefore compromising the balance in the bowel.
