How does one keep a positive attude? I have a couple of tings going on in my life right now and I'm tring to keep positive but my thoughts keep drifting toward the negative. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

Writing down the positive things in your life is always helpful. You realize from looking at that list, there are more good things, than you originally thought there were.
You probably don't have to look too far, to see someone having a harder time than you are having.![]()

Just recently, we had a whole lot of "stuff" happen ~ all at once. It was like, really? Something else? What next? The only advice I can give you is it will pass. This isn't forever and yes, tomorrow can be much better. I don't know what you are going through and thankfully, other than one of our dogs having surgery (he's fine now) nothing was super serious. Also, it's also easy to let your thoughts drift towards the negative when you are surrounded by negativity. Stay away from people & situations that bring you down. Do a little something for you everyday, even if it's just sitting outside listening to and observing nature. I hope this helps and I wish you better days ahead! :-)

I am going thru the same thing right now. What is working for me, is that when we first learned of the situation, I prayed a very detailed and fervent prayer, and I visually saw myself handing this over to God. Every day I thank God for carrying the burden for me, and keep telling myself I will not worry unless I know I need to.
My best wishes to you.

@hovis I urge you to start a Gratitude Journal today. It doesn't have to be fancy, so don't feel like you need to go out and buy leather bound journals or custom stationery first.
Each evening, write down three things for which you can sincerely say "Thank You." Even if one of them is just for ice cream.
The point is to notice the good things in your life. If you do this, I promise that before long you will be looking for them throughout your day. Leading a grateful--gratefilled--life is the way to happiness.

I come from a family of worry warts. What helped me was thinking "okay, what is the worst that can happen, and what can I do if it does?" Very rarely would that worst happen, but just having a plan helped me feel prepared, and less worried.
As I've gotten older, I worry less. I think of the amount of time I wasted over things that didn't happen, or if it did, I got through. We are all stronger than we think when we are tested. None of us knows the future. I don't think it's a matter of a positive attitude, but simply getting through the "now" with as much grace as we can muster.

@hovis, I think what you're going through is normal. It would be in my book. As I now am able to look at a few things that have gone on in my life, I know the only way to handle most things that's worked for me is to take it one day at a time and that's the best you can do, as you go through things. Best wishes with what you're going through and for a positive outcome for you.

You have to live in the now and not project about the future. I speak from experience..there is an ad on television for heart failure medication saying for heart failure patients tomorrow is not a given. Having had a serious heart attack and now in heart failure, I enjoy each day as it comes. Today was a good day...I had lunch out and walked around a beautiful town with a lovely shopping district. I so much notice the little things now and try in being appreciative of whatever time I have left.
I wish you you happiness and hope you can live in the here and now... Remember to smell the roses.

I don't have anything going in my life but I come from a family who gravitate to the negative on everything and I work in a very negative environment.
In order to keep from getting sucked in, I surround myself with positive messages.
Positive music (there is a Christian contemporary radio station in my area that has positive messages, I use this to wake up to in the morning). Spa music is also great. Pandora has a Spa Channel on their free service.
Noah St. John has a system called "Afformations" - a series of questions you ask yourself (vs positive self talk)
Podcasts - a new fun one I listed to is The Living Experiment.
Setting an Intention - each morning when I wake up I set an intention for the day. It can be general like "today will be a great day at work, everyone will cooperate with me and I will get a lot done." Or it can be very specific like "I am going to rock my presentation today and get a tremendous amount of positive feedback."
The great thing about attitude is that you can control it. You can choose to have a positive attitude.

In the morning when drinking my first cup of coffee....listening to the birds outside...sun coming up.....I ask myself. What Are You Gratefull for Today? I can always think of a good positive thought to fill my busy negative mind.....and try to dwell on that.
