I stumbled on your PLANT BASED NEWS thread and was thrilled! Low bow of appreciation.
I am humbly hoping you might start a NEW 2019 thread. Mainly because it's hard to scroll through all the old conversations AND there's so much NEW news (books, web links, cookbooks, studies, films).
It's not enough to get rid of harmful foods, as you all have shared, it's about the tasty substitutes, recipes, deliciousness that fills the gap.
And, as a neuroscience researcher, YES your brain does adjust. What you crave changes. Your arteries get healthy, cholesterol goes down, Type 2 Diabetes is thwarted, dangerous inflammations are stamped out.
Since you are a neuroscience researcher, I would love to hear more
about the science behind cravings, Dr. Lisle wrote The Pleasure Trap,
which many of us have read...but would love to get your POV.
Can you talk about dopamine & cravings?

Go CANADA!
They are definitely moving in the direction of more
whole food plant-based for diet & health!!
With these changes to their National Food Guides, evidence proves
Heart Disease, T2 Diabetes, Obesity ¬her modern day illnesses
will be prevented, if not reversed.
Will be curious to follow their health trends in the next 5-10 yrs.
Watch for an immediate drop in T2 diabetes with school children
if they follow Food Guides for school lunches.

Shoot.
I have my finger on the pulse of PB lifestyle & I hadn’t seen this article,
but after reading I understand why it hasn’t been mentioned:
Alexis Joseph, RD,
“I consider myself plant-based because most of the foods I eat are
plant-based," says Joseph. "That said, I also eat yogurt, cheese, eggs,
and fish when I feel like it, and that’s okay!”
(no it’s not okay...and if you do, you’re not plant based)
‘And, remember that a plant-based diet doesn’t mean you can never eat animal products. "Think about how you can enhance your diet without focusing so much on taking things away,"
(yeah, plant based does mean you never eat animal products)
My take...there’s lots of ‘opinion’ in this piece. These authors think
if you have a spinach salad for dinner, you’re plant based (exaggeration).
And I think a lot of people think that.
Plant based needs a better marketing team but in the meantime,
these registered dietitians will say ‘plants are the healthiest for all sorts
of reasons’ (they are)...but in the same breath will say not to be
‘restrictive’ or ‘it’s okay’ to eat foods deterimental to one’s health.
Eggs, cheese, fish are not, and never will be, part of a PB lifestyle.
IMO...a RD/RDN who says eating food which can make you sick
is like saying ‘just smoke 2 cigarettes a day instead of a whole pack.’
I can’t trust what they say....because they’re talking out of both sides
of their mouth. It doesn’t make sense & it just confuses people.
They do have this sweet graphic, tho
(added some starch so we’re not hungry!):

@sidsmom This article reminds me of how much ignorance still exists about a plant based lifestyle. I was at my opthamologist's a few weeks ago and talking to the front desk assistants about being plant based.....the response, "oh, so you only eat chicken and fish"....ugggg!
