Forgot to mention, doctor left a small portion of one ovary as part of the total hysterectomy. I was 36 at the time and did not go into menopause until my 50's. -- for a while I took hormone replacements, but not for long. No leakage, no problems. Now am almost 70.

I had a total hysterectomy (uterus, cervix, and fallopian tubes) on July 1. Dr. found several small and a large fibroid tumor in uterus swollen from 75 to 125 grams. She said, "This wasn't a battle we were going to win, so it's better we took out uterus/fibroids."

I spent one night in hospital and now recovering at home with family. Sore, tired, but relieved. Seems like a long road ahead with recovery of 6 weeks. Can you give me a perspective on healing and timeline? I've been walking around house and eating lightly too.

Thanks and Happy 4th of July.

Don't push yourself, you need plenty of rest the first couple of weeks. After mine, the day I went home, I was told to get up in the morning, take a shower, have something to eat and then lay back down for a nap. Up, move around some, have lunch, and then another nap.

Do that for the first week and slowly increase your activity each day. No lifting or vacuuming for at least 4 weeks. You may think you are fine before that but if you overdo, you wont feel good and you will slow down your recovery.
