The more I am learning about it the more upset with the medical world I am getting.
Over the past 5 years I have broken both my wrists and both my hips.
According to what I have read I should some begun sort of treatment with the first break. I am going for a mass of blood work Monday and see the doctor next week. Although the dexa scan was an issue it did show Osteoporosis in my left writs, which was my first wrist. I am very interested in the outcome. Just venting. Thoughts are welcome

@I am still oxox I agree with you regarding my osteoporosis. I had a bone scan in my early 60's which came back at 3.5. My doctor apologized and said that he should have advised the test when I was in my 40's.
I am so sorry that you're going through this. I know that I wished I had known much earlier about the treatments that were available since my doctor said that the treatment wouldn't help me now.
Best to you with your tests.

@I am still oxox I suffered both a fractured femur and upper arm last year when falling while walking my dog just before my 65th birthday. Even before my dexascan, I was told that I had osteoporosis due to the fractures and was started on monthly evenity injections. My scan showed that I had severe osteoporosis. My last evenity shot is next month and then I'll have another scan in December.
@nrm I question why your doctor would tell you that the treatments wouldn't help you now. Many of my dexascan numbers were worse than -3.5. Evenity not only prevents bone loss, but also builds new bone. My interim blood tests have shown that it is working for me.
Best wishes to you both!

It's very unfortunate that many women don't even know that they have osteoporosis/osteopenia until they break a bone in an accident like falling most likely. I read that somewhere around 80% of older people have no idea that their bones are thinning.

Has anyone had the Dexascan with TBS?
The TBS measures the inner bone quality. The scores tell you how your inner bone, the trabecular bone, is connected. This differs from a T-score, which measures your bone density, or the quantity.
In my case, the Dexascan T-scores showed only mild osteopenia so I wasn't prescribed any medication.
However, after 3 spontaneous fractures, the doctors said I had severe osteoporosis. The outside of my bones are solid, but the insides are not.

Check and ask about your vitamin D levels when you get your blood work done. Strong vitamin D levels help with bone strength.

@juanitalinda Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I had my first bone density test in January. All my t scores came back under .1 except for myright femoral neck at 1.2.
It gave me a probability in TRAX .7 and TBS .4 for a hip fracture. .No medication needed at this point. I now have a better understanding of these numbers. I just went back and looked at my test results. My doctor said I don't need another test for 3-5 years but did mention my bones were thinning. That really helped me so thanks again.

My T-scores of my femoral horns were both below -2.5 when my osteoporosis was discovered. Scores we so low that they were actually off the chart. I had hip pains but I never thought it was related to osteop. Thought it was arthritis actually. But after many years Rx drugs, changes to my diet, exercise ...one of my femur horns is now in the osteopenia range but the other side is still osteoporotic with a T-score of -2.5. Better now than before.

If I remember correctly, you took Evenity, then Reclast.
I have done the same. Gained almost 20 pounds on Evenity, but it is slowly coming off now.
I am only 4 months post-Reclast infusion and lots of things have changed. My LDL dropped a ton, but unfortunately so did my hair. I might have to consider a wig if this keeps up.
Still ... I have no interest whatsoever in returning to a wheelchair so I will take the side effects and hope for the best.

Yes I had the 12-months of Evenity and my bone density went up by 14% which is phenomenal. Then after that it was 2 doses of Prolia...never again with that one. Had side effects. I just got my first Reclast last week. So far so good.
I did not gain weight from Evenity nor did have hair loss. Are those side effects?
