I saw this happen at my dad's nursing home. They recently hired a couple of new gals and they weren't there very long. I inquired about it and one gal told me they were fired for being on their cell phones. That didn't surprise me and I was glad the home stepped up to the plate. That is one thing that keeps us there.....they don't put up with slouchers.
We are aware that they are going through a big change with changing hands, so we are trying to be patient. I read a really good article about a program they have started....I believe it is in the UK.. (on oral hygiene in nursing homes) I guess the residents where they tried it were quite a bit more healthy.

My late mother was in a private facility strictly for people with dementia. It was a lovely facility and residents had their own room, a single bed, a dresser and a chair. They also had a toilet/sink bathroom.
Even though the patients were showered twice a week, either my dad or myself visited my mom every day and did our own maintenance for her. We would watch her brush her teeth and she didn't do a very good job.
I have so thankful that she never went a day without us checking in with her. She always remembered us but she lost her ability to speak and her memory was shot to heck.
I know it's not always possible but people in these facilities need an advocate to help.
As an addendum: the employees that are hired make diddly squat. We believe that my mom was well cared for because we would bring in donuts or pizza for the afternoon and night shift gals and at Christmas and Easter we would give her regular care givers a card with $20.00 in it. Those kind of things go a long way. On the other hand, we had a great aunt who was on Medicaid. Our cousin bought her new clothes and placed them in her locker. Only the cousin and the front desk had the lock. One day when our cousin went to visit, all her new clothes were gone!
