I have been sick with pneumonia and bronchitis for two weeks and trying to clear chest congestion with hot water bottles and heated corn bags.  Last night, since I did not want to walk downstairs and fix something, I got out one of those heat wraps for backs.  I just turned it around and it worked perfectly.  What was really nice was that it more secure that trying to keep a bottle or bag on my chest and sleep.

The next time that I hear salt and ice together, it better be in a margarita!

Sounds good!

I always liked old fashioned Vicks Vaporub. I dunno if they still sell it, but I'd apply that, and put on two old shrunk cotton t-shirts.

I'd slip the heat source (usually a heating pad or hot water bottle) between the two shirts and work it right up to the base of my neck, covering my lungs.

The semi-tight cotton shirts would hold things in place over my lungs as I slept.

I swore by that little blue jar of Vicks.

If you have pneumonia, shouldn't you be in the hospital on antibiotics and not lying on a hot water bottle?  People die of such conditions, you know.

@Kachina624  Pneumonia does not warrant a hospital stay here.  Maybe it depends on age.  My family doctor has even worked while having pneumonia, as have I.

@x HedgeThey still sell Vicks and I use that, too.

@SXMGirl - They also sell Vicks in a tablet that you place on your shower floor. The hot water dissolves it and boy does it help. Feel better soon.

@riley1  I looked for those at our local pharmacies and they either are not carrying them or they are out.  This is a product that I could really use right now.  What was really noticeable was how small the Vicks display was as compared to the others.  I guess Vicks is old school, which is my favorite.

@SXMGirl - Try the grocery store - they were hard to find as they were on the bottom shelf. Can't remember if they were with the Vick's products or just cold remedy aisle.

That depends on the type (specific kind of bug or agent) causing the pneumonia. 'Pneumonia' simply means inflammation of the lung(s). There are more than 30 different causes of pneumonia, grouped by type...bacterial, viral or mycoplasma.

Did  you self diagnose this bronchiolitis and pneumonia???   It sounds like you did because the antibiotics they would have prescibed would most certainly have taken effect my now. You are treating the symptoms but not the disease.  It's been two weeks, you should see a doctor.
