My endoscopy results are in..

And thankfully everything biopsied was benign! My results did show some inflammation but I was told to keep taking my acid reducer.

Do any of you follow a diet to help your stomach?

And thank you so much for all  your replies and  support.

I'm so glad everything was benign!  I take omeprazole every day and have for years.  I have tried controlling the acid by diet, and it doesn't work for me.  Even with the omeprazole, though, I try to be careful what I eat.  Spicy and rich foods affect my reflux.  I could never go without the omeprazole though.

I have been following "Everyday Detox".  I used to have stomach problems when I was going to bed.  My stomach was on fire, now I am feeling just great and no more fire in the gut.  It is just food combining but works for me.  You could see if they have this book in your library and try it.  Good luck and congratulations on your results of the endoscopy.

Glad you're well.  I have acid reflux and don't eat chocolate anymore.  I take Sucralfate for it.   I've lost 11 pounds and go for walks.   I don't eat spicy food, which I never liked anyway.   I had the acid reflux very bad to the point I felt vomitous.

Congratulations!  In 2007, I had problems with a burning sensation around my belly button for which the doctor gave me Nexium?, the purple pill.  That was a miracle pill!  She gave me samples to use for something like 40 days or so.  There's a limit on how long you are supposed to take those pills. At any rate, I'd expected to take a non-prescription Prilosec or something after that, but after I finished those the burning was gone and it has never returned.

I'd taken Augmentin for a vicious cat attack, which seemed to put my GI system completely out of whack.  I couldn't eat things like popcorn without huge stomach pains, and then there was the burning for about three months.  At any rate, I started panicking and thought I had colon cancer and drove everyone crazy.  I think they were a bit on the bitter side when they learned I wasn't terribly sick because I'd been such a pain in the neck.

I highly recommend Nexium for GERD burning sensation.

Re: My endoscopy results are in..

@lynbeechwood I am so glad you are ok. I do well with my Nexium but I too have to avoid spicy foods. I do drink only bottled water and that helped me also. I was getting esophageal spasms that made it hard to eat or drink anything. As long as I watch my diet for carbonated beverages, spicy foods, and tomato products I am fine. When all is calmed down for a while I can eat a small amount of tomato products. Here is a site    http://greenbeltendoscopy.com/antiRefluxDiet.php     This has some good information on it to help. Your doctor should be able to tell you where to find one. You could show him this site. It was interesting as I have never been a smoker or drinker and that was good. Good luck. Let us know how you are doing.

@lynbeechwood

Glad to hear the you got your results and looks like nothing serious to me. Now!!!! About all this "worrying and being scared" all this time?

What did it do for you? My answer would be "nothing". I realize waiting is not easy, I've hours/days and weeks doing just that, both as an in-patient and an out-patient. Could always find many things to occupy my mind, even after weeks in the hospital.

My first Endo? No symptoms whatsoever, only had it done because my brother-in-law had Esophageal Cancer. My results finally came back with the following:

Inflamed Esophagas

Hiatal Hernia

GERD

Barrett's Esophagas(which is a precursor to Esophageal Cancer)

Thus an Endo every 3 months for 2 years/every 6 months for 2or3 years, can't remember for sure, and now annually.

Try to look at life more optimistically, it sure makes dealing with unpleasant things much easier for a person?

My best to you,

Re: My endoscopy results are in..

Thank you hckynut,

You are right- my anxiety level has been a work in process for me. Believe it or not I have come a long way in terms of functioning with my panic. Years ago, I would not have been able to even go to work if I were waiting for test results. This week I did keep busy and went to work. Like a normal functioning person should do.

For me, my panic and anxiety began when my mother-then 46-was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Even after 20 years-of her passing-I cant help but become panicked with tests and biopsies-and all the other healthcare we must do for ourselves.

You are right that thinking more positively-helps .That is definitely something that I have to practice more of.

Thank -you again for your posts and insights.
