"Every 43 seconds someone in America has a heart attack and increasingly that person is younger. A new study from the Cleveland Clinic says the average age for the deadliest type of heart attack has dropped from 64 to 60 because alarmingly well known risk factors are on the rise including smoking, high blood pressure, obesity and diabetes. Mistaken belief the pills can solve everything. "It is the false idea that taking medications for cholesterol and taking appropriate medication is enough and lifestyle changes are not required."
This NBC Nightly New report also highlighted Trisha, who was 95 lb overweight, developed diabetes, had heart bypass...but wasn't until she had 8 stents put in her heart that she got scared. She started exercising, adopted a Plant-Based diet, is no longer diabetic & from 13 pills a day to 1/2 pill.

I just saw that on our news channel also.I am happy for her that she is able to get well after all the abuse her body has been through.I didn't think your body could recover from some of her ailments but that proves how miraculous we are if we just take care of ourselves with good diet and exercise.

Did you know that they are finding that alot of heart attacks are due to chronic inflammation due to diseases like RA, psoriasis, etc. This is especially true in younger patients and for patients that don't have an other risk factors.
When my husband was in the hospital, they had 4 heart attack victims come in that weekend- two under the age of 40 and two in their early 40's. They have never had that many young heart attack patients in a matter of a few days.

The heart is unfortunately not very forgiving. Through diet and exercsie you can only strengthen the card you've been dealt.
I've read that vegan diets can help reverse blockages and other issues (Dean Ornish) , your ldl needs to get super low. I eat very little red meat as it is, but I'm not ready to give up all meats!

There's even a connection between heart disease and dental hygiene.

That's true. But it's not just a "good" diet...it has to be the RIGHT diet.
Like I've mentioned in numerous threads, moderation kills. And if you have heart disease, there's no such thing as 'good' cholesterol or 'good' fats.
Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, formerly of the Cleveland Clinic, is the Gold Standard of heart disease reversal.
For optimum health...and especially be 'heart attack proof',
a low fat, whole foods, plant based diet with no oil is a necessity.

Yes this is true and includes chronic inflammation due to gum disease. See the connection? ![]()

I believe we all really know that exercise and a good diet is the best answer for all of us in having good health.
I've been on a roll to clean up my own diet habits, I've begun working out again, don't eat bread/sandwiches anymore like I was. I'm now into eating a hard boiled egg each day, drinking Kefir each day, no lunchtime sandwiches, having a bowl of good grains/nuts cereal, and also enjoying kimchee as a good probiotic. I eat even more fruits & veggies.
Our dinners are better consisting of just veggies and/or a big salad with our white meats because I at least do not/cannot eat red meat anymore. I've stopped red meats a long time ago, they don't at all ease through my system. I will serve a steak to my husband every so often but that too is rare for him. Lucky for each of us the only prescription drug we take is for our blood pressure. We certainly intend to not be on any more drugs than that.

Great thread! I too find the concept of "moderation" to be really unhelpful.
STRUCTURE has made a major difference in my life, and by removing most decision making, I'm able to maintain AND enjoy what works best for me.
We all have to be participants in our own health. One thing that definitely DOESN'T work is waiting u til tomorrow.

Yep, depending on your level of denial, 'moderation' can be interpreted many ways!!! ![]()
