Thank you @lolakimono. Great suggestions. I've never heard of a bite prop. I'll make a note on my calendar for my next six month visit. I was only having my teeth cleaned, but still I feel sure that's why this happened. My jaw is much better today. I'm so glad it's not going to be the long ordeal that it was the last time.

Lately it’s been clicking all the time. Yesterday it got stuck, and it took me about 30 minutes to get it unstuck. I was talking on the phone around 4:00 and it got stuck again. It’s 5:45 and it’s still stuck. I called the dentist to see if I needed to see him or someone else, and his office was closed. I’ll call tomorrow morning. I assume he will have to tell me who to see, and it won’t be him. I don’t know what will need to be done. Has this ever happened to any of you?
Is your mouth usually stuck open or closed?
You may need surgery to shave some excess bone from your jaw. Have you had an XRay to see if you have a growth in your jaw?
Good luck.

@EatWell When it was stuck, it was open. It was only completely stuck open for a couple of hours. The oral surgeon took x-rays. It wasn't stuck the other day. It felt like it had slipped out of place again. The oral surgeon didn't mention a growth or surgery. He said I had a disc in my jaw that had slipped out of place. I took 800 mg. of ibuprofen three times a day for four weeks. I saw the oral surgeon at two weeks and four weeks.
This time wasn't like the first time. It's completely fine now.

I have tmj but I take antiinflammatories mobic ,and plaquenil [for Lupus] and remicade infusions every 4 weeks so this gets rid of the pain . Antiinflammatories or prednisoe which I do not advise]is usually what is prescribed .You may have neuralgiain your jaw.
That is very painful also . The trouble with prednisone is it thins the bone and destoys the bone causing necrosis so short term treatment is helpful but antiinflammatories are your best bet,.Steroidshots also destroy the bone if you get too many shots in joints ,

If and when you get fitted for a "bite splint" or "night guard," do wear it every night when you are sleeping. It will help to relax the muscles around the joint. Also, warm, wet compresses will help to relax that area.
I wore one for years and it does help.
