I posted before about my frustration in recuperation and rehab of my total hip replacements. I had my right hip done in December, and my left done in May, and the right seems to be totally recovered. The left is being stubborn. I saw the surgeon yesterday, and he told me to ditch the cane. He said it's like wearing a brace, and I'm probably relying on it too much and inhibiting muscle strength. So yesterday I stopped using it. It isn't easy, but it is also easier than I thought it would be. I went to the local mall yesterday and walked around without it while shopping. Today I went back to work volunteering at a dog kennel and didn't use it at all. I think I can do this. ![]()

Glad you did what you surgeon told you to do. I doubt there are many that have been through any serious rehab where they too had doubts about many things during their rehab.
While I have no joints replaced, my numbers of serious rehabs are so many, I am not sure I can even remember all of them. Many were sports related injuries, others were heart and pulmonary rehabs.
I was/am the type of patient the therapist has to hold back, as opposed to push through discomforts and doubts about their rehab. There were 2 rehabs that took me well over a year till I felt even close to 100% recovered. At some points along the rehab path, it was not physical discomfort that were my issues, it was the mental aspects of not being to compete or function at 100%.
The best things for a person to possess during any long term rehab are: optimism/dedication/determination, and most of all patience and confidence in their doctor(s) and Physical Therapist(s).
I hope things continue to move forward for you with a full recovery coming sooner than later.

@AKgirl2 thank you. My husband said the very same thing. I actually can't overdo it because it will start hurting so badly I can't move when I do too much, which is my signal to sit down and rest for awhile.

Thank you, all. I seem to be pretty good. I just took a big load of laundry down 12 steps to the basement. It was kind of hard, but I did it. Then I stood at the piano for 1/2 hour setting up packets of music for my a cappella group to work on for 2 Christmas concerts in December. Next is a nice shower and then a trip to Staples.....at least my life seems to be back to normal. I can go out and shop, walk around stores, etc. without knowing that I will need to sit down every 2 minutes. I know this will improve and the strain will be gone, just like it is on the right hip. Now the really lousy news is I have to go to the endodontist tomorrow for a look at a molar that has had 2 root canals done on it already. EEEEEEK......I wish I could escape my body just for the time it takes for that to be done. Not a fan of dental work......and I doubt anyone is.

Our bodies always let us know, don't they? Hang in there @BriggsiePeawiggle, it'll be a far off memory before you know it...wishing you many feel good days ahead🍂🌻🍂

Gurrrrl, you ARE doing it!
Keep up the good work.
I sure wish the good Lord had made our body parts w/ a Lifetime Warranty. I'm going to need my 125,000 mile overhaul soon.

A person's body always lets them know, but way too many either cannot, or will not listen. There would be many thousands less deaths if people not only listened to their body, but also acted, and the sooner the better.
In the above, I am not talking about rehab. Many people hear, but unfortunately instead of acting on what they hear, they convince themselves that "this too shall pass", and way to many do pass on.
When your body is screaming it to you, you would be wise to listen and to act. The sooner the better as many times I am talking minutes, not hours or days.
