Magnesium oxide and then magnesium citrate.

But there are other things that you can take such as plain Greek yogurt and pumpkin seeds (they have mangeisum in them) to name a few food items. Along with other foods such as raisins. Probiotics help as well.

I take 500 mg Mag Oxide daily, I take calcium and it negates the constipating effect of the calcium.

Not all types of mag negate constipation, Mag Oxide does.

I take mag oxide for constipation but the strongest mag is magnesium citrate which I use when things get really bad with my IBS-C.

@Mom in NY   I know you are seeking magnesium info...but I thought I might mention this stellar product.  I have used other effective Dr. Morse products in the past as well...but this one is always on hand for my family.  It works.

If constipation is an issue, even if you are eating a lot of fiber (fruits/veggies), the best supplement (made of herbs) is Dr. Morse.  It is gentle, effective, no side effects and nonhabitual.  The only remedy for my family for decades for this issue.

Dr. Morse's GI Gentle Mover (new name and bottle) is the one we use, but it comes in different levels.

@moonandthestars   I also swear by magnesium malate. Taking 2 capsules a day has alleviated a serious IBS digestion problem I suffered from for many years.  I use the THORNE brand.

I have found that magnesium oxide helps with indigestion and heartburn.

I don't have any problem with it acting like a laxative, but I usually take just the minimum amount that's recommended on the bottle.

Yeah, if someone takes a high enough dose of magnesium citrate, it can act like a laxative.
