MRSA Recovery, Now More Woes

I've posted in various places that I was diagnosed with intestinal MRSA last week. How I got it is a mystery to all. The good news is I am on two antibiotics that the bacterium is receptive to and I'm finally starting to feel better. The bad news, however, is that an abdominal CT scan taken in the ER last week had an incidental finding of two small lesions on my spleen. And given that I had melanoma, albeit 15 years ago, I need to follow through on the finding because melanoma metastasizes to the spleen. It could be anything from two benign cysts to a terminal prognosis. My doctor added Xanax to my medical list because I am freaking out. I am trying to think positively but it ain't easy!

My family doctor is very concerned and wants to refer me to an oncologist. My dermatologist did not seem nearly as concerned, but by chance his son is a professor of radiology at a very prestigious east coast teaching hospital and he said he'll tell his son to read the CT Scan disc himself. We'll have the disc sent ASAP. I suppose I can pursue both options for now. Meanwhile I have to rid myself of the MRSA. I see my gastroenterologist tomorrow about that but will talk to him about this totally unexpected, and anxiety-provoking, finding too. What a week I have had!

I will keep you in my prayers.  Hopefully with modern medicine updates, they will be able to take care of you with no problems.   The main thing is to stay POSITIVE.  Your state of mind will pay a large part on your health.   Best Wishes

I am sorry to hear about this new finding. Dealing with MRSA is a very serious situation. Am very glad to hear you are feeling better and the antibiotics are working for you.

You will be in my thoughts with both these issues.

My best to you,

Just do everything it takes.  I would not let a dermatologist word be the final word, only one of many words.  We have seen cancer of the spleen, liver and heart from old melanomas.  Take care to get every valued opinion you can.  One is never enough and two may be just a start.  I will talk to the man upstairs about you tonight after I lay my head on the pillow.  So much it seems but He is such a big man and has such a keen understanding of everything at one time.  Best to you.

Prayers, hugs and blessings dear Vivian, and I am a firm believer in getting more than one expert medical opinion.

I always get at least two medical opinions from Specialists.

I do this to be certain I am being steered in the right directions, for my specific situation, and no longer left to agonize and wonder.

In any even please keep us abreast Vivian, and please remember that you are in our daily continued get well quickly thoughts, and prayers.

Thanks to all for your support, prayers, and advice...which are so right. I sent out an email to my doctor at Yale (I live far from CT) who has treated me for a different digestive problem over the years. If I don't get a reply (he's usually good about responding) I'll call him next Monday. Then there's the radiologist prof whose father is my dermatologist. He will read the CT scan disc; then there's my local gastroenterologist today and the oncologist my family doctor is referring me to. I'm just getting started, but the stress of this has set my gut back a bit, so that's why I asked my doctor for good old Xanax.
