Re: Is anyone else avoiding the stores and malls ?

I don’t go to malls anyway unless it’s to pick up an order. Most of our malls have closed and the few that are left mostly have tourists in them....I much prefer shopping in my pajamas even more now than ever. I do go to the grocery store when necessary but avoid WM....too many sick people out and about coughing and making no attempt to cover their mouths.

Re: Is anyone else avoiding the stores and malls ?

DH and I are in Vegas, where crowds everywhere are as great as they were last month when we were also in L.V.  Yesterday we had lunch at one of the best Thai restaurants in the country (at night the line is frequently two hours plus at Lotus of Siam) and it seemed that every Asian in the city was there (Some had three generations).  We all had a grand time and terrific food (so not everybody is paranoid --yet).

I have altered my lifestyle to be more prudent.  For me that means no extracurricular activities for now (I will be fine without them as I have several hobbies) and going out only for essential errands like the grocery store or bank.  However I go very early in the morning to avoid crowds.

@alicedee  I have to laugh.  When I switched to tv antenna only I started watching Star Trek reruns (the original which has a different quote than the one above) almost nightly.  Yes I recite the prologue along with the show and I whistle along with the theme.  My dog looks at me like I'm nuts.

I rarely go to malls. But I just got back from the supermarket with DH. We're on our way to Costco now.We had dinner at Red Lobster last night. The restaurant was packed.

I am certainly avoiding malls and stores.  I most always do.  I avoid shopping now days pretty much because with so many choices we have, it is difficult to find what you want without chasing all over town.

I avoid movie theaters and have for years because they have gotten so nasty and people are rude and thoughtless, and I can't think of any move I have been excited to see.

I always stay in as much as I can during flu season!  It is a huge benefit of retirement!

I swear we are related.I feel exactly as you do.We shop really early for groceries before everyone else is out of bed.I avoid people in general during flu season but this year is going to be a long time to social distance.

Used to live more rural and had to travel miles to shop so I mostly order a lot of stuff online.  As for movie theaters, friends used to always call me to go bc they wanted to see movies on the big screen and when they came out.

Both long term friends died 9 months apart in late 2018.  I moved from the country to the burbs 3 years ago.  I now have Verizon FIOS and these days if I want to watch a movie I watch it here.  It's actually much cheaper - by the time you bought your ticket and snacks at the counter you were looking at $20 easy.  On Demand movies are different prices based on how long they've been out and you can usually stop it and run to your kitchen for snacks making it MUCH cheaper.

ETA:  also the woman who used to like to go to movies with us suddenly got afraid back when there were a lot of shootings in movie theaters years back.

I rarely go to malls.  I do most of my shopping online, including groceries and drugstore items. Been doing this for years.

I have a few medical appointments that I need to keep. And I have a dental appointment for cleaning in April.

If I needed something at a mall or store, I would go.

@Anonymous032819   What you say about excretion is true, but that does not mean that Vitamin C is useless in fighting cold and flu viruses.

There's an old study from 1999 entitled, "The effectiveness of vitamin C in preventing and relieving the symptoms of virus-induced respiratory infections. by Gorton HC and Jarvis K, that has as it's Conclusion:

"Vitamin C in megadoses administered before or after the appearance of cold and flu symptoms relieved and prevented the symptoms in the test population compared with the control group."

And, in its Results section, "Overall, reported flu and cold symptoms in the test group decreased 85% compared with the control group after the administration of megadose Vitamin C."  I think this study is significant, and there are many other similar studies on Vitamin C, too.  And yes, there are studies that say Vitamin C's benefits are inconclusive, too.

There was a fascinating study done in China in 2015 entitled, "A New Mechanism of Vitamin C Effects on A/FM/1/47(H1N1) Virus-Induced Pneumonia in Restraint-Stressed Mice" by multiple authors, Ying Cai, et al.  This one makes me wonder about how stress can make a person more ill than an unstressed person from the very same exposure to a known pathogen.  I don't doubt that at all. I think we need to stay as calm as possible.

Re: Is anyone else avoiding the stores and malls ?

Not any more than I have for the last several years.   I just don't go browsing any more, and often I would plan to go shopping and then talk myself out of it to save gas and figure I don't really NEED it or can just get it later.  I tend to wait until I can do several stops rather than going out to just one store if I can.
