Re: Is anyone doing a keto diet?

Does not work for me. Triggered depression that got progressively worse and I was very sluggish. I feel best on a diet that is primarily vegetarian with some fish.

@YorkieonmyPillow  Snacking is actually a wonderful thing.  We should be eating two snacks a day.  Plan for them and choose healthy low calorie items with lots of protein. a hardbolied egg, or a small amount of turkey rolled up in lettuce, a small handful of nuts, yoghurt, a piece of fruit...about 100 calories.  I eat 1 ounce of deep dark chocolate everyday for a snack.

Snacking, if truly experiencing physical hunger,

just means one isn’t eating enough at their meals.

And (as a Chef AJ says),

“if you’re truly physically hungry, you’ll eat kale.”

All the fatty, salty, crunchy, sweet in the examples above

just means it’s an emotional hunger.

Just drink some water, eat an apple or some celery.

Next meal is probably in the next couple hours.

Thanks for your replies....I'm mindful of such matters...I didn't plan on being on the diet over 2 weeks.

I've already lost a few lbs. by cutting out snacking.

Snacking is really a terrible habit.

@YorkieonmyPillow

Sounds like you’re doing well by cutting out snacks!

Keep doing what you’re doing until it doesn’t do anymore.

Re: Is anyone doing a keto diet?

Hi Yorkie,

Just pertaining to your response to my earlier post:

Yes, some Keto diets allow more than just veggies and protien and do eliminate sugars and starch.

The particular program I was on was called Ideal Protien.  IP even restricts the veggies- nothing high in sugar like beets or carrots.  Cruciferous veggies limited to 2 cups weekly and tomatoes as well.  Absolutly no fruit. On IP you supplement your foods with thiers (very xpensive)

I think it depends on the Keto diet you use.  I've seen some of the pinterest keto charts and they are very helpful.

Whatver you choose to do good luck.

Re: Is anyone doing a keto diet?

Yes, but Hubby and I call it Atkins.

We really call it a way of life now.

We've watched family members deal with type II diabetes and want to try our best to avoid.

Re: Is anyone doing a keto diet?

My youngest sister did Ideal Protein and lost a ton of weight and so far has kept it off after 3 yrs.  She has with time learned to cook/prepare meals that fit into keto meals plans without being restricted or limited to the high cost of the IP foods.  Eating keto is a life style not a tempoary diet.  Like any diet...once you lose weight if you go back to your old habits you are going to gain it all back and in most cases gain more than the initial weight loss....thus the yo-yo effect that most diets have on us because we tend to look at dieting as a tempoary thing for weight loss and not a permanent life style change.

Re: Is anyone doing a keto diet?

DH's cardiologist put him on a very strict nutritional ketogenic diet last year. He lost a lot of weight but it was very hard to follow as well as expensive he did not enjoy it at all.

Dr. gave him a new eating plan 10 days ago ; he has already lost 5 lbs and it is much easier to live with; we hope to adopt this plan as a new way of eating long-term:

75% of what you eat each day should be vegetables

Use meat as the garnish of your meal, not the main food

i piece of fruit each day

no starchy foods or grains, no sugar

Eggs okay, but avoid dairy, like milk and butter, small amts of cheese okay

Fats for cooking or dressing salads should be olive oil or avocado oil

Premier Protein shake as a meal replacement as desired

So pleased to get some sensible options....he even said the zero point list from WW was a good guide...can't find it online without joining though.,
