Is anyone doing a keto diet? If so, how long and how are your results? ![]()

I stuck to Ideal protien for over a year, lost about 60 lbs. I would be careful with Keto. The minute you go off program you gain the weight back.
I put 15 lbs back on in about 3 months so I went to weight watchers. Have taken 5 lbs off in the past 2 weeks. I'm much happier with the ww plan. Keto is very, very restricted.
Protien and veggies, nothing else.

That doesn't square with what little I've read - I thought the only thing a person has to avoid is sugar and starch, i.e., bread, pasta, rice.....but it seems like there's a huge selection of allowed foods.

I know many people who have done this diet. They do seem to lose a lot of weight, quickly. But if they're not careful, they're going to gain it back, plus some, once they stop eating this way.
When I want to drop a few pounds, I do it slowly. It may not give the immediate gratification, but it's the way I prefer to go about this.

Most of the diets I have been on have been where I spilled a low level of ketones. Halie Berry claims her youthful appearance and slim waistline is due to keto dieting.
@YorkieonmyPillowIt is basically a low carbohydrate plan with emphasis on fat, protein and vegetables. It is highly restrictive but then again any diet that keeps you very slender will have restrictions. On a ketogenic diet you can buy special test strips to measure whether you are in ketosis. Not to be confused with diabetic ketoacidosis which will also show high levels of ketones. Many people get this confused with ketogenic diets. One is completely different from the other.
It kept me at 118 pounds at 5'8 for years. I do low carbohydrate dieting now because my physician doesn't want me in ketosis long term. Best to check with your physician whether it is right for you, though.
It's great if you want to lose a few extra pounds quickly. I know of no other diet that helps with appetite the way keto diets do. They completely stop cravings and you pretty much have to force yourself to eat due to a lack of hunger.
Good luck with whatever you choose to do...

I did a Keto diet 37 years ago. The diet was Nutri System. Yes, they have been in business that long and fail to tell you that they changed their diet plan.
i lost weight really fast and it was easy to follow and stay on. My problem was my potassium got really low and I started to pass out. They did blood tests every week before meetings. My doctor demanded that I go off of it, but I didn’t because it was working for me.
My doctor finally called NutriSystem and told them not to allow me to be in their program. Back then, you had to go to classes and buy food at their center.
i continued to follow the diet at home on my own...making my own food. I continued to lose weight, but finally, I got too sick and had to quit.
The doctor said I was damaging my heart muscle. Besides giving you bad breath, this diet can be harmful.
i occasionally go on it for a few weeks to lose a couple of pounds fast, but I know it is not a good diet to be on longer than that. I hate going to the doctor’s, but I would not do this diet long term without medical supervision.
Adkins low carb diet works slower than the Keto diet, but Is much safer and I have used that one long term with no problems.

I would be VERY careful. I believe it could be dangerous for anyone who has kidney issues-too much protein. I cannot do the full Lindora program because of my kidneys and I believe this is similar. Lindora will not allow me to follow it strictly based on my blood tests.. It is a health risk. Again, be careful.

A definate No for me....watch Cyrus and Robbie on Mastering Diabetes to find out why this is not a beneficial long-term program. I respect everyone's choice for themselves, but sometimes education will impact the decisions that we choose for our well-being. I am not interested in any low-carb/high protein plan....it does not promote health.

Thanks for your replies....I'm mindful of such matters...I didn't plan on being on the diet over 2 weeks.
I've already lost a few lbs. by cutting out snacking.
Snacking is really a terrible habit.

@YorkieonmyPillow Snacking is actually a wonderful thing. We should be eating two snacks a day. Plan for them and choose healthy low calorie items with lots of protein. a hardbolied egg, or a small amount of turkey rolled up in lettuce, a small handful of nuts, yoghurt, a piece of fruit...about 100 calories. I eat 1 ounce of deep dark chocolate everyday for a snack.
