@RedTop wrote:Inaddition to prescribing oxygen therapy for your low 02 saturation, you should have been given a handheld spirometer to use several times during the day to help strengthen your lung function to increase the amount of air your lungs take in when you breathe.
The spirometer has a mouthpiece and hose you blow into and the force of your breath raises a ball inside. The more force you exert with each blow pushes the ball higher, and if you do this exercise daily, you strengthen your lungs and improve your oxygen saturation, which will show up in the number recorded from the pulse ox on your finger.
i was given one in the hospital after my stroke it was used to inhale into it, not to blow into it
john used one everyday as part of his training while skating and bought a new one every few months was good to see you mention it

@ECBG : So sorry that you are dealing with so much. You need to call your doctor instead of self diagnosis. Low breathing rate is caused by so many other health issues and not by " not doing enough". Someone had to prescribed or order the breathing machine for you. If you don't understand the "need " for this machine - please ask your doctor or nurse to help. Any other health issues or concerns : ask for help immediately. I and so many other people posting are concerned for you because of all your post and some very confusing information that you have given. I have read all your post.🤗❤🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

The "need" for home oxygen is determined by the reading of the level of oxygen in the blood. It can be done by placing an oximeter on the end of a finger or by a blood sample. Medicare and insurance will cover if the blood oxygen is below a certain number (used to be 85 but I don't know if that has changed). My docs check my oxygen level every time I go in along with my BP and heart rate.
