Irritated eyes from reading on Ipad

I love reading books, lots of books, newspapers, etc on my Ipad. I am now waking up with red irritated eyes. I don't need or wear glasses for reading and when I am away for a couple days the irritation goes away. I don't want to use eye drops all the time. Short of reducing my time on the computer, any ideas?

Love my iPad but for reading books a Kindle is far superior. You can get a basic model very cheap nowadays. If that's not an option have you adjusted the brightness on your screen? If I have to read a book on my iPad I've found the black background with white lettering is easier on my eyes. There's also a sepia background that you could try. Or maybe adjusting the font & size? I'd suggest playing around with the brightness, color and size. Good luck!

Use Systane when your eyes are dry. Scratchy or itchy can mean dry. I might use once or twice a day for a few days up to a couple weeks and then not need them for weeks or months on end. I just use it intermittently but more so in the wintertime when the drying heat is turned on. I worked on computer for many years, 10-12 hours per day and that has taken care of the issue for me.

I also read about using certain type of glasses for reading on computers and devices. I believe they are yellow colored. Look them up on Amazon. I have been thinking about this myself lately because I feel that is all I do is look at computers screens for a good part of the day. At night, it feels the worse with that light directly in my eyes. I havent tried them but they couldnt hurt. I will see if I can find them as well. I have heard they help.

Hello, wmsbgshopper. Smile

Whether it's an iPad, a Kindle or a book, make sure that you have adequate lighting when reading. If the room is too dim while you're reading, it puts a strain on the eyes. If you need reading glasses, be sure to wear them. That may also help to reduce the strain. If this is possible with an iPad, increase the font size so the letters will be bigger. Reading tiny letters makes the eyes work very hard.

If you go to Amazon and search on computer glasses, a few will pop up. I tried to post a link here and it didn't work for some reason. I might look into these myself especially for night time.

I have many electronic items but for reading I never used the ipad, and prefer using the kindles instead.

Check with your eye doctor. Dry eye is a common problem with reading from computers and tablets.

In addition to the other suggestions, check the brightness and text size (look under Settings, then Display & Brightness or use the Control Panel for brightness adjustments). And also, look under Settings, then General, then Accessibility and try out some of the display changes you can make.

Sometimes variations in these things can cause eye discomfort.
