I have leg pain which is what started this whole journey
@Still Raining wrote:Might want to check the effects on bones too. I had good luck with a dietitian for the solution to tummy problems.

Wow, after all you went through, it might be a drug side effect? Count your blessings on that one but I hate you went through the ringer with all those tests and worry.
I have a form of Mediterranean anemia (thanks dad) and it has me low and occasionally anemic if I don't eat right or take an iron supplement.
Other than being cold a lot and maybe having less energy from time to time, low iron is usually not a big deal.

I just realized something my late Mom also took Prevacid and also had low iron issues

@I am still oxox Through diet, you should be able to increase your iron intake. Almonds, leafy greens, broccoli, salmon, eggs, mushrooms, etc.
Like you, I do not eat beef either; not for weight reasons. A four-ounce rib-eye is about all I'm able to handle! It's simply too heavy in my stomach.

Thank you

Anyone taking proton pump inhibitors like Nexium or Prevacid on a long term basis needs to read up on the possible side-effects. These drugs are not harmless, benign over-the-counter drugs but can be extremely dangerous. Their use should be closely supervised by a doctor. FIY: in order to be effective they must be taken daily, not just when you feel heartburn. Often, instead of PPIs, a less dangerous acid reducer can be taken regularly or on an as-needed basis.

According to what is on the net, they do rob your body of iron/B12.
My Dr told me, now I am off nNxium ,my levels might improve. I have a friend that has taken Nexium, for years ,and just lately she was started on B12 shots also
Google is your friend, they will tell you what the medical consensus about it is

@cherry I've wondered...how are you doing on your acid reducer? My problem with Prevacid was decrease in kidney function, although I've also got anemia problems too.

@Kachina624for the most part OK. I just have to be careful of what I eat, and I am still taking probiotics
Some days are better than others, but it is livable, so far
