@SeaMaiden wrote:I have been eating this way long before it became the newest craze. I eat about 4 PM a healthy meal with fresh vegies, whole grains and low fat proteins and high fiber foods. I do not eat again until 4 PM the next day. I do have some tea, a bit of almond milk and some herbs during the day....... but no meals or food. One meal a day. Works for me.
@SeaMaiden I do the same thing. Every time I mention it to anyone I hear "That can't be healthy" My response is "Works for me!"
@Mary Bailey Yes. I rarely tell any one for that reason. My digestion and overall energy is better with out digesting food all day long.

I didn't start this way of eating to lose weight. I was actually trying to put some weight back on after I'd lost too much on a prior way of eating. Some people only eat 1 or 2 meals a day on IF, but I still eat 3 meals a day, and I eat a lot of calories,
You don't have to restrict calories on IF, unless you want to. I know a lot of people do it to lose weight, but that wasn't my goal.
I know you have other health challenges and certainly you should talk to your doctor about it, though.
Same here....I do not want to loose any weight....need to keep it on! Having enough time to get hungry again to eat enough protein is very important for me. I usually begin eating around 11am or so....stop about 7pm. I might be able to shave off 1hr but not sure I can get in the amount of protein I am aiming for.

Okay, don't shoot me, but how is "intermittent fasting" any different from just not eating between meals?
I mean, our ancestors would have breakfast, go to work, have lunch, work some more, come home, have dinner, go to bed,and repeat the next day.
Were they "intermittent fasting"?

@Anonymous032819 You have to go further back in ancestors. It's meant to mimic hunter gatherer times or seasons when you had feast or famine. The lowest I've seen called IF has been half day on and half off, 12:12 but many do it for longer periods at a time.

Intermittent fasting would be longer periods.
EX: finish dinner at 6-7pm & resuming eating at lunch next day.
I've seen it jokingly called...."skipping breakfast".

I think wider spans (18/6, 16/8) are a little more typical.
All my fasting is liquids only, no solids. Some are 2 days, others just 1 day. For running Road Races it was done the day before the run, up to and including the 10k or other shorter distances. Never heard of the hours of eating and fasting, but hey, whatever works for each person.

I’ve been doing IF for about 5.5 months. I follow a 16:8 schedule daily along with a keto way of eating. I’ve lost close to 60 lbs. and feel great. I plan to continue permanently.

I have been for a month or two, using a 16/8 schedule. I'm not certain yet if I have experienced any benefits from it, but I figure it's at least a few more hours a day I'm not filling my pie-hole. 😄

Can I ask what if anything to you eat or drink if you stop eating after 6 hrs? I can't get past 8 hrs. I've been trying for awhile. Thank you.

I do that lots of time. I skip breakfast/lunch the most frequently around. Some days it's not Breakfast, other days it's lunch. Everyone does it without thinking about it. When you work, most of the time you eat very little breakfast. I'm prone to losing weight, so I watch it carefully and don't do it all the time. I'm 112 lbs which is on the thin side of normal (my BMX is normal) so I don't do it a lot. I also tend to work through lunch. I just don't leave my desk. When you're retired, then it's harder because you are home most of the time. I've talked to my doctor about it. Other times I eat the normal 3 times and try to never eat between meals. I drink a lot of water too. All day, I'm sipping water.
