@Kachina624  It took me 4 or 5 weeks before my taste and smell came back.  It's been over a year and I still get the blasted headaches.  

I got my vaccines February 18 and March 18.  Haven't gotten the booster yet.  Maybe this week...Oh my cough lasted a long time...it was a dry hard cough...take care..  DW

1. Please call your doctor @Kachina624 . The vaccines lower your risk of becoming extremely ill from Covid, but they do NOT prevent you from getting it or spreading it. There is so much misinformation out there. You need a test immediately. Loss of taste occurs when you're too congested to smell - the two senses are intertwined. Loss of taste is intermittent with colds and flu. If it's been steady without nasal congestion, you're experiencing one of the most common symptoms of Covid. Get tested. ❤💐

@Kachina624 - I totally agree with what @LibbyLib wrote.  Losing taste for a few weeks is not a normal result of a cold or a flu, although if one has a lingering and raging sinus infection with swollen sinuses, I suppose that might cause a loss or a corrupted sense of taste for as long as the infection continues. When i had a terrible sinus infection that backed up into my ears years ago, everything I ate tasted like acidic poison (due to my post nasal drip). Didn't matter if I ate pancakes with syrup or pasta with pesto sauce-- both meals (one at a diner and the other at a restaurant for dinner later that day) tasted exactly the same-- absolutely horrible and disgusting.

Anyway, as you are still sick after three weeks, it might help you greatly to get a diagnosis.  I have not heard good things about Remdesivir, however, as it leads to kidney failure. I hope there is something much safer for you to take. Corticosteroids have been helpful for many people, as they shut off the inflammation quickly. I know someone who recovered from a severe case of COVID after taking that type of drug in the hospital.

I hope you feel 100% better soon, and that your sense of taste returns completely.

This is very concerning, @Kachina624. Do you have any of your sense of taste back yet? I think it's important to discuss this with your doctor.

Everyone that I know who had Covid and lost their sense of taste and/or smell said it is not the same as when you lose your sense of taste or smell from a cold or flu.  They said it is a complete and total loss of smell and taste.  They couldn't really explain it but they just said it's different.  It's more complete.

Last year was the first year I ever got a flu shot.  I did it more in the event there was any protection from Covid by getting it.  I was lucky that my insurance paid for it 100%.  I didn't have to pay a dime.

Oddly enough, when I got my Covid vaccines, I never had to give any insurance information and my vaccines were covered.  However, my DH got his at Rite Aid and they billed our insurance for both of his vaccines.

@Porcelain    Still don't have even the slightest hint of a sense of smell or taste.  I don't have a sinus infection, just some sniffles due to seasonal allergies.  My cough is much better.  

My doctor just retired and she handed me off to a new one who I've never met, but I have an appointment with her the first week of December.  In the meantime I may call the state health dept. hotline and ask for advice.

I think this is a good idea. I'm glad your cough is better. That lack of smell and taste is concerning though.

@HonestLife    Thank you my dear.  Knowing how to use a search engine unlike many people, I've Googled covid symptoms, testing, health department, local pharmacies and more.  Notice I didn't have to ask anybody? 

By the way, do you notice how many others suggest to those seeking information that they Google it?  It the sensible thing to do when you need information.  Now YOU  know.

Your symptoms sound just like what my daughter had and she did have covd. She had congestion some coughing and completely lost any sense of taste or smell for about a month or more.

She had had both vaccines so even though she did not feel well for awhile she is now ok. 

Her husband, my sil just sneezed a few times. He was tested and also had covd.

If anything it might give you peace of mind to know and also that most regain their sense of taste and smell.

There are so many symptoms that could be a cold, flu, virus, stomach flu or could be covd. It's hard to know and unfortunately we never had to wonder about this before this awful pandemic.
