you can buy battery powered fans. What I mean by batteries is regular ""c"" batteries. These fans are used by campers but I bought a few of them in case our power goes out in the middle of the summer from a bad thunder storm. They are medium size and don't have a pedestal - they are square so it can sit on the floor or seat next to you. Of course buying cold packs that people with neck problems use (I have a few of them) that you keep in your freezer is another option. You can put a towel on your neck then put the cold pack on which fits the neck and you can velcro it in place. There are also cold packs that you can put on your wrists. These three areas on the body help keep you cool. I'm sure there are other things I'm not think about. I think giving you trucks with no a/c is a disgrace. Its not healthy being out in the heat all day like that. I feel sorry for you.

I'm in Phoenix so know about HEAT. Go to www.mycoolingstore.com for lots of ideas. The products you can freeze and put around your neck are great. We use them when attending the ludicrous first few ASU football games, when it's still way over 100F.

I think that website (and lots of other places) carry portable misting fans. The really bring down the temperature.

I agree with the things you freeze or soak in water, then place around your neck. I purchased a package of 6 perhaps 8 years ago from the Q and they are great!

Yes I have to give up my right hand drive jeep that I love and drive that tin can on wheels. Just hope I can get past this heat.

My husband got me these cooling towel things (made by the same company as the ones Susan showed upthread). They might not hold up for a very long time outside when it's 100 degrees, but they help me out a great deal in the house.

The ones I have are 13" wide by 37" long so I can wrap one around my neck twice. You just get it really wet, with cold water, then wring it out and it says to 'snap' it, then just wrap it around your neck - or wherever. It stays cool for quite a while for me and I generate a LOT of heat.

I am no longer able to tolerate being out in the heat, so I haven't tested them out outside. Just a few minutes in heat that's not even 80 and I fade pretty quickly and get sick, due to an auto-immune challenge.

I'm really getting a lot of mileage out of these! He got them at Lowe's. I would be interested in wrist-size ones, though. I wonder where I can find those. I need all the help I can get with the heat. I hate summer so much!

That's inhumane - can't you file a grievance?

I use the cold neck wraps. I wet them, put them in a plastic baggie and then in the fridge.

Take one out as I need it.

Oh, honestly, are you serious? How did the human race survive for CENTURIES without air conditioning? {#emotions_dlg.confused1}

How did it survive without a lot of things - electricity for instance. But would you want to go back to doing without it - or them? And yes I'm serious - it sounds like a grieveable issue to me. Riding around all day in the heat in a non-AC'd truck? You bet.

This would be an issue you should take to your union.

I have checked to see if they could make me switch. And was told I could continue driving my jeep but would have to pay for my own gas. Which would be around $50.00 every two days so I'm stuck Thanks for all the replies they were very helpful
