I want to thank everyone for all of your input - much appreciated.
I have not done anything yet except for keeping the hand in ice cold water. I can bend the finger better than before so I think the injury of spraining the finger may be getting better.
We had a winter storm here last night so I did not want to wander out today to get help yet. (I will if the finger starts getting discolored, etc.) I really think the ring nees to be cut off.
It's a beautiful diamond ring my mother-in-law gave me before she passed away. She had always considered me as a daughter and wanted me to have her ring. I hope the jeweler will be able to save the setting after cutting if off, but if necessary, get a new setting for it.
I'll continue to keep everyone updated. I sincerely appreciate everyone taking the time to help me.

I have not been able to get the ring off for several years due to my gaining weight; however, the finger had never hurt, never was discolored, etc. so I just let it be and hoped maybe when I loose weight it would come off.
I've read some of the tricks on-line about using dental floss, windex, etc.; however, I really think I need professional help as the finger is so puffy.
Has anyone had something similar happen? If yes, where did you go to get it cut off. A jeweler, an urgent care center? Also, how much did it cost to have it cut off?
Thank you for your help.
@BunSnoop Soap it up really well and it should pull off, used this method once.

@BunSnoop I'm glad the cold water soak is helping the sprain. I know it's difficult to think of having to cut off such a treasured gift.

As a teenager I had to have my birthstone ring cut off my finger- - -Mom used needle-nose pliers to cut the ring off.
I’d been married about 10 years when I crushed my ring finger moving an appliance by myself. The finger started swelling immediately, and I could see I was going to be in trouble if the wedding band didn’t come off quickly. I plunged my hand into ice water for 20-30 minutes, and then used cooking oil to get the ring off.
The ring had a slight rough spot that could be felt, and while I had no broken bones, I now have arthritis stiffness in the knuckle from that injury.

If you think the swelling could be due to fluid retention, drink lots of water and maybe take an over the counter water pill/diuretic. I sometimes have swelling in my fingers and this does the trick for me. I take the pill in the morning, drink lots of water all day, then wash hands with cold soapy water that evening. I hope you finger feels better and you are able to find a solution soon.

I've never heard of someone keeping their wedding rings on forever! I remove mine every night, can't sleep with jewelry on.

My father has never taken his off ever. Until he had bypass surgery and it was a huge fight. He actaully got wheeled back there with it on because he refused but they convinced him to remove it at the last minute. Good thing because his fingers were huge when he came out of there. So it was 55 years of wearing it.
