Looking to cut out white sugar, flour, all carbs? Processed foods, what does that leave me to eat? Protein, veggies, some brown rice? What is a good site for recipes, plan to follow. What works for you?

I'll read the responses with great interest because I need to make some changes. I'm wondering if those who say they don't eat meat, still eat fish. I just don't see how you can get enough protein if you don't have some meat in your diet.

You can try Laaloosh website. It has Weight Watcher recipes for free. Lots of recipes.

Try Whole 30. Great program to get you on the right track.

I had good success strictly limiting refined white flour and sugars but I cannot do a strict "low/no carb" diet. I feel like cr*p if I do not get carbs from some source. I ate modest amounts of fruits and whole grains as my carb sources and lost nearly 50 pounds. Carbs are your body's main source of energy and trying to eliminate them completely is not a good idea. I ate mostly whole foods-fresh meats, veggies, fruits, and YES dairy because I love it, although I guess it's not technically a whole food.
However, if you're really set on doing the very low carb thing, probably the Atkins plan or some sort of Paleo plan. Good luck!

Thanks, I will check them out. I exercise daily but at middle age I need to get as disciplined with my eating. I cant cheat like when i was younger. I feel great after exercising and then throw it away with bad food choices.

50lbs! Congratulations! I am not looking for pure protein, my first step is to clean out the junk in the pantry and rethink my shopping list. I always get into holiday mood and then feel like junk oct-dec. I just think it lasted the whole year or two!

Thank you. I was doing Weight Watchers but not their current plan, it was an older plan. I find their newest plan VERY restrictive.
Another thing to keep in mind is slow and steady. It took me over a year to lose the weight but that was OK with me. I had seen too many friends lose it too fast and put it right back on. That's a whole other war......sigh......keeping it off......

Cut out all carbs, really? Big mistake! Been lacto-ovo since mid '70's. If I cut all carbs, I would starve to death. Unless one is diabetic, I do not get all this carb bashing. To me it is nonsense, in my opinion. I will keep eating primarily my complex carbs thank you.

Carbs provide your body with energy. I live on carbs...live foods. I don't eat meat/dairy/oil/salt/refined sugar/processed foods. This lifestyle is becoming much more mainstream. For me it has been a lifelong process. Everyone reaches their own conclusions about what they feel is best for themselves. My choices are based on health, concern for all sentient beings, and the wellness of our planet. Not all calories are the same. A "healthy eating plan" depends on perspective. I honor everyone's choice. I wish you much success on your journey.
