@Caligurll wrote:I am vegan and try to follow a whole food, plant based diet; meaning, I try to limit my processed vegan foods intake. Not so easy around the holidays! When I follow the WFPB diet, I can eat as much as I want/need without worrying about my weight, and usually will lose weight if I don't weigh myself a couple times a week so that I can make adjustments to my diet.
I'm not suggesting anyone go vegan; it is not an easy thing to do, but the closer you eat to whole food, plant based, the easier it is to reap the health and weight loss benefits. This has been my experience with WFPB eating.
Wonderful! But I do have to warn you....mods will delete your entire post w/ the doctor's name...just a heads up. I do have to agree w/ you...love his lectures..and his son has a new book out, though everything is free online. Just love all the beautiful testimonies by eating a WFPB diet.
Eat as much as you want.
Do you eat according to the calorie density of 800 calories or less per pound? Yeah, the oils don't fall within that guideline. As the good doctor says, 'NO OIL!"
@sidsmom Thanks for the heads up, I didn't know I couldn't name names!
I saw the good doctor lecture this summer. He is amazing. I have a ticket to see Dr. McD in February.
When I am "on," which I just started again Monday, I do eat according to the calorie density of 800 calories or less per pound.

You got it, cherry!
Maybe if they ate more whole food carbohydrates, it would make less room for fat/oil...and diabetes would be a thing of the past. Reversal happens every single day!

I cut out bread and processed carbs and lost 5 lbs in 10 days.
I ate potatoes or fresh (frozen) corn with just butter, S&P or carrots as my carbs. Didn't change anything else. Rice is a good extra in soups.
If I did splurge on pasta, it was primavera! Eats lots of the veggies and you don't eat as much pasta!
Good luck. Just try not to think diet, but think healthy!

I have had the best results for my health with a Paleo type eating plan. Good quality protein (NO factory farmed animal protein), lots of vegetables (the more colorful the better), some fruits, nuts and seeds. Healthy fats which are crucial for brain and nerve function and hormone production. No grains, no dairy, no processed sugars.
Remember that vegetables and fruits, nuts and seeds all contain carbohydrates. Those are the good kind. Stay away from the highly processed ones that have nothing but starch and empty calories.
Check out UltraWellness.com, Dr. Mark Hyman. Lots of articles, lots of great recipes, a community.
I've eaten this way prior to finding Dr. Hyman's site, but it's a good site to check out.

Thanks for the great suggestions. I agree with cutting out one thing at a time. For me cutting out processed foods is the easiest. I never craved sugar but middle age came with a sweet tooth. I will check out all suggestions.

A....you ask about protein and if a fish is considered meat (yes, a fish is meat. Some "vegetarians" call themselves pescatarians because the only meat they eat is fish...protein is the last concern for a vegan, if anything B12 and D3 may require supplementation just like a nonvegan). You can be very healthy by eating a whole plant based diet. My plan is best for me, but each of us will benefit by determining what is best for ourselves. Incorporate nutrient dense foods in your diet and you might want to start with just releasing one thing that is unhealthy. At the same time, increase your uptake of fresh fruits and veggies. McDougall has a wonderful site with lots of information and recipes as well as the Internet. Find a few meals you really love, and gradually add to your menu. Be kind to yourself, do not allow yourself to be hungry (if you are, head straight for the fruits/veggies) stay away from anything with a label or processed and your body will appreciate the nourishment. Wishing you much success and you will enjoy this lifestyle if this is the path you want to explore.

Eliminating sugar and grains gives me so much energy and so much mental clarity. I get so much done now it's amazing. At home, I eat grassfed and/or organic protein but when I travel, it's hard to find when eating out and I can tell the difference in my energy level (and I look 5 months pregnant by the third day).
