I saw a hematologist about the Hepatic Infarction that I have. I told her I was puzzled by this and every doctor I have seen says this is rare and puzzling.  I have talked to no one that knows anyone that has had this. The hematologist said she agrees.  She said that most people she see's have deep vein thrombosis and this isn't that and she would have to study on it more. She is older and has been a doctor for years and has never come across this before.

Meanwhile, this Friday, I will be having a couple of ultrasounds....one on my abdomen and one on the leg they took my veins for my Quadruple open heart surgery. I have lost some weight but am slowly getting my appetite back.  They have put me on Eliquis. It's very expensive but the doctor gave me a 30 day free coupon.  After that I'm hoping to switch to something cheaper like warfarin.  So far, except for the swelling of my stomach and intestines I haven't had another painful attack  like the one that sent me to the emergency room. I'm thankful for that!

@jubilant

Hopefully this doctor can get to the source of this issue. I personally had not known of this.

If you have to stay on Eliquis long term? I suggest you ask your doctor for paper work to fill out to the manufacturer of Eliquis. I have the same issue with Entresto, way out of what I can afford. I filled out the paperwork and got approved, and I now receive it free for 12 months.

After that, I can refile the same and receive the it for another 12 months. If you would have to struggle with this, I would suggest looking into this.

Coumadin/Warfarin is still available and works well. Doctors don't like to prescribe it because involves getting regular Blood Draws to check your INR/ProTime levels.

@jubilant , @hckynutjohn  I echo what is said here regarding the Eliquis. My Mom had to take this, and she applied through the social department of the cancer center where her oncologist practiced.

She was approved, and honestly, it surprised me. Each month they had her Eliquis delivered FedEx.

As I get older I realize more and more good health is priority.  I am not at all familiar with your health issue.  I am glad you are following through with treatment and research by your doctor.  I wish you the best with healing and recovery and hopefully you will also have answers to your medical concerns.  May good health return and put your mind at rest.

@jubilant,

Gosh you have been through so much. I hope your doctors will find what they need to help you.

Though you hope they would know exactly what to do in a w ay I think it is good that that doctor said she would have to study more on it. Like not just guessing you know?

I hope you keep feeling better and then all the way to good!
