My sister tried it for severe arthritis in her knees. Her pain has not been relieved for over a year. The marijuana seems to have helped the pain a little, but she is disappointed the pain isn't gone. Her dr told her it helps tremendously for some, but for many there is little effect. Guess there is only one way to find out.

I don't have chronic pain so my doctor has not recommended it. However DH has many health issues so he has taken it occasionally (there are different variations).
As a matter of fact, at 67 the only health issue that I have is being a bit overweight. I recently went to an integrative MD to help me to avoid problems as I get older.
As for stigma, I would do what I feel works the best for me....who cares what others think? They don't need to know unless you tell them...I'll tell you something about myself...I smoked pot several times a week back in the 1970s and though it's been a very long time I turned out fine.

@haddon9, I'll say that it has helped you a lot.
You seldom see a sick rastafarian. It's also due to eating healthy.

I don't use it for pain, but I know many people that do. I have used it for anxiety with my Dr's approval. I grow my own and make oil to bake with or add some to my coffee when I am having a day with alot of anxiety. It also help's me sleep. My husband used it a few year's ago when he was going through Chemo and it was a big help, especially with appetite. I grow my own because I want to make sure that only organic product's are used on it and it is soooo much cheaper than going to a dispensary. With the oil you can also use it topically for muscle aches and pain.

I told her yes I had thought about alternatives to Opioids. I have started using it and it has helped me tremendously. The stigma is bothersome. Am I alone?

Nope - wouldn't use it.
I have a fairly high pain tolerance. Twice after surgery I was givng a prescription for pain "meds" and tossed them.
After a recent sciatica issue - doc offered me a "controlled subtance" drug - and I declined.

I have never used it personally, but I have known people who have, and they have said it helps.
My husband purchased CBD cream at Whole Foods
because he has had some arthritic pain in a shoulder, and he felt that it helped a lot.
Getting off NSAIDS and opioids is good.

My friend's husband was given a prescription by his doctor. He has diabetes and depression along with other medical issues. She said his mood sometimes improves, but not always. Her problem is dealing with the smell, it actually makes her nauseous. He only uses it in one room, but it circulates throuout the house. Obviously she wants whatever works for him, but she is finding the smell difficult.
