I've had them most of my life. Here's my list of what works for me:

Benedryl---topical cream (will help with the itch feeling)

Benedryl tablets  to help with the reaction to whatever you are allergic

(note: there are very good generics to this medication so compare the ingrediants and percentages on the labels)

Natural methods that help (along with medication) :  Take a hot shower applied to the areas that have the rash. Let the hot (not scalding--just as hot as you can stand) spray on the rash areas. This will trigger your systems response and you should have relief from the itch (not the visible rash) for hours. Each person is different but relief is relief.

Ask your pharmacist for recommendations---there are quite a few generics

@Trinity11I'm so sorry that you're having to endure this.  Are your primary doctor and opthalmologist coordinating your care?  It's got to be awfully hard, when you're in the thick of such a bad case, to hold on to the fact that this ordeal will end.  I'm pulling for you.

@vsm , I was in the ER last night for severe pain. I am on

a steroid, drops for my eyes to help heal the lesions and tegretol. This afternoon I have a visit with a cornea specialist. This was a nightmare as I was diagnosed with post herpetic trigeminal neuralgia. The pain is my biggest fear and I need to see a neurologist.

Sorry for taking this thread off topic...Thanks for the good wishes.

@Trinity11A night visit to the ER for pain is tough enough, so I won't take up more of your time or your privacy with further posts.  For what it's worth, my own neurologist had me on tegretol for many years (not for trigeminal neuralgia, but as an anti-convulsant), and I'm aware that it's the drug of choice for TN.  I found it hard to tolerate, but also that taking it with food helped.  It sounds like you are in good hands, and I wish you the very best.

Mine are a side effect to a medication.  Seem to come and go somewhat randomly.

They can give some prescriptions which help, I have two.  If it is large patch and they are oozing, they have large pads for you to wear which helps the mess.

Go ask a doctor.

I thought I had RADIATION POISONING from all the X-rays.   Paged the doctor in the middle of the night,  and he told me to take Benedryl, too (which I always have for hay fever).  Turned out to be an allergy to the antibiotic he prescribed.     di

I remember this happening after my dad had oral surgery...the doctor had him soak in a  purple solution...he was in misery! I've had similar reactions to certain drugs...benadryl helped. I've always had problems w/antibiotics too!  Woman Sad

I've had terrible hives and been hospitalized. Finally my Allergist recommended Allegra 2 Tabs  twice daily and prednisone. The hives get so bad they affect my joints so it's painful walking. Last time I had them a few years ago I made myself walk rather than sit. But the Allegra at higher dose and prednisone kept the hives down more than Benadryl . But check with a Dr first.
I've never found the cause but suspect a cold or virus starts them, once a sinus infection did.
