A couple of weeks ago, I debated whether to buy the Alta or the Fitbit One. I wasn't sure if I wanted to wear one like a watch or clip on my clothes. I decided on the clip on.

Now now I wish I had gotten the wrist style because the Fitbit registers more steps when I clip it on my watch (arm movement, I guess) instead of my collar.

By the way, the Fitbit One sells for $99 but I got it on Amazon for $79. Only the black one was that price. It was an Amazon Prime purchase and arrived in two days, already charged.

I love the look and the size of the Alta (I have the Fitbit HR) but it does not have the Heart rate, which I really want.

THOUGHTS to consider:

between my husband and I we are on our 5th Fitbits since Feb of this year. They just stop working- this is common and they send you new ones free of charge (takes about 12 days). When our 1 year warranties are up ?????!!!!!

Accuracy is POOR the ones you clip to your clothes or bra strap are much more accurate. The ones on your wrist are very inaccurate- my neighbor gets thousands of 'steps' from ironing.

My aunt who talks with her hands and plays cards for hours a day usually gets over 10,000 steps a day. She will tell you the most she walks is from her car to her couch and her car to the table at her card club or bingo game!!!

I am on my 3rd or 4th Fitbit plus I have a Garmin one too. I sometimes wear the Garmin on my arm & put the Fitbit in my pocket. The steps & mileage between the two vary quite a bit. No idea which one is more accurate but, as you mentioned, it's probably the arm movements throwing it off. I thought about canceling the Alta but even if I just use it as a watch with text/call alerts I think I'll like it.

@Tribesters The only thing bad about that is that you have to keep your bluetooth turned on your phone which drains your phone battery.

I had one and that had that feature and I didn't use it because it did drain my phone battery. At least it did my phone. I have an older Samsung Note 3.

Just a heads up.

I woke up in the middle of the night & thought about the battery draining on Bluetooth. I have an iPhone 6 but always keep Bluetooth off because of the drain. I almost canceled the Alta for that reason alone. I guess I'll give it a try. I usually charge my phone every couple days- I'll probably have to charge it daily with this. Thanks for the info.

I have a Charge HR, but I picked an Alta up last night, too. The Charge HR great at what it does and I really like it, but it is SUPER ugly. It also lacks text notifications, which I would really like to have. I plan on wearing my Charge HR at night or when I do an actual workout where I want the HR monitor, but will wear the Alta as my regular day-to-day watch.

The Charge HR doesn't have an interchangeable band, so I'm looking forward to being more flexible that way, too.

The one thing I really don't like able the Alta is the clasp. The Charge HR and the Blaze have a traditional buckle closure that's far superior to the clasp on the other FitBit bracelet models. I've written to them to ask that they change to the buckle clasp instead of the plastic prong thing, which just isn't as secure. Hopefully it won't be a problem that makes me return it, because the Alta has a lot of benefits my Charge HR doesn't - I just really want that buckle.

I ordered this late last night. It has shipped already. I'm used to "in process" for a few days. I might have this by the weekend.....
