I had it done in 1970, and it was a very big deal back then. Real surgery with a long recovery period.

I had it done on dec 26th (yeah, made for a quieter xmas) and was outpatient. My stone was an inch, and although it wasn't a bad recovery, with everyone telling me they were up and about in a day etc., I felt kind of bad that I didn't really feel that great as I"m short waisted and rubbed on the incision unless I was reclining and when I'd cough or move wrong at night (roll over) I did indeed have some pain. But not on a regular basis.

Give yourself a break and listen to yourself and your body. Some will be great in a day, others like me felt better in about four and was back at work at a week, but would not have wanted it to be one day less. The good news: much faster recovery with lapro, and no more attacks once it's over. Good luck.

I went back to the doctor yesterday and I'm progressing normally. The doctor said that it takes 6 weeks to be fully recovered from a surgery. Just because it was "only my gallbladder" that I still have to take it easy. My usual exercise that I do every day.. I have to modify and he told me what not to do. So I'll be walking more. I feel good, but I have to remind myself to slow it down. If you do too much too quick there is possibility of a hernia and I don't want that to happen.

Thank you all for your kind words and sharing your own personal stories. I'm grateful that I'm healthy..Health is your wealth - Have a wonderful day!!

If your surgeon didn't explain all of this to you, you should find another surgeon. If he or she did and you're just looking for more information from people have experience it, then I can say that my experience pretty much exactly matched what the surgeon told me.

Recovery was quick. I live alone, so they kept me overnight and I my friend drove me home the next day. I spent a day mostly resting in bed and the day after that I was working from home. I think I had the surgery on a Wednesday, worked from home on Friday, and was back in the office on Monday.

I had to eat bland foods for a few days, but after that it was back to normal.

There was some pain, but it mostly wasn't bad. The worst was reaching over for the alarm clock or sneezing/coughing. While the general pain went away quickly, it was a month before I could sneeze or cough without holding my stomach because it felt like my guts were going to pop out the tiny incision at my belly button. The other discomfort came from the gas that they use in the surgery, which stays inside your bloodstream and travels around, causing strange pains in random places. That lasted about 2-3 days.

Again, your surgeon should have prepared you for all of this, so if this sounds at all unfamiliar, you should get a new surgeon who will better prepare you. I'm hoping my account matches what your surgeon told you.

I am glad you are doing better. My surgeon told me 6 weeks to before I should do anything strenuous or lifting. It is surgery and you can get adhesions and a hernia if you do too much.
