For those who want a better understanding of a carnivore lifestyle...

[ Edited ]

As many of you know, my health journey with my husband started in Sept 2018. I've shared many times how we were doing along our journey. We started off as eating low carb and then over time had progressed further in lowering our carbs.

The more we lower our carbs, the better we felt and the less health issues we had to a point we don't take meds anymore. ALL our health issues are now GONE.

I now live a carnivore lifestyle and my husband lives a keto/ketovore lifestyle. He is able to tolerate a few more carbs than I can to maintain weight/health. I have to keep my carbs as close to zero as possible. DH averages between 10-30 a day depending on whether he has a salad or not (only twice a week). For an example, the only time I ingest carbs is with eggs and that is twice a week for me. Eggs are about 1 carb each and I will have 4-6 with a burger or lamb patty.

For some, I've explained this to ad nauseam. For those folks, just pass me by because I do try and give folks that do care info they might like to have to better their health.

Below is a title of a 55 minute youtube video. I especially recommend it for folks who are type 2 diabetic, pre-diabetic and/or at least know they are insulin resistant. If you are healthy, but know of someone suffering from these issues you can certainly pass it on to them.

What I particularly love about this video is the gentleman being interviewed says literally everything I have been trying to share on here to help others for a long time. He explains so much...especially on how we have all been dupped and many Drs & nutritionists are just plain ignorant.

If you don't have time to watch the entire video in one sitting, bookmark it...but at least watch it to the end.

For some, it will be eye opening...

For others, they won't care either way.

Everyone finds their own path to better health. Smiley Happy

Re: For those who want a better understanding of a carnivore lifestyle...

My daughter was diagnosed with  type 1 diabetes about six years ago.  She started eating much they way you and your husband do, and I learned more about it and changed my diet substantially as well. I lost almost 20 pounds.

fast forward to about two months ago.  I had been eating too many carbs and put on almost all of those 20 pounds.  Started cutting back on carbs (and sugar) once again.   10 pounds down, about 7 to go!

@september   Sadly, yes...one has to be careful about 'carb creep' or falling into the 'carb ditch'.

I learned several years ago that even having a 'cheat' day....like for a holiday or B-Day leads to having difficulty going back and getting on track again.

The carb/sugar addiction is so strong. For some folks, it is so strong, they would rather take more insulin than give up their fave foods. It really is sad, but that is their choice.

Personally, DH and I don't want to have to take insulin or any other meds. Additionally, I'm adopted. My biological mother was a type 2 diabetic...never really took care of her health and a few weeks before she died, both of her legs were amputated due to type-2 complications. She was 49 when she died.

There are a few folks who are able to 'moderate' carbs. I personally have to obstain. I learned myself I am that sensitive/addictive to sugar/carbs.

I didn't have an issue with my weight/health til my early 40's. I was 'normal weight' til then. All of a sudden I started gaining weight and kept putting it on even though I wasn't eating more. My body broke and I became insulin resistant/pre-diabetic.

So grateful now we have changed our lifestyle. Both of us have been away from all the addictive foods for so long our cravings for them are gone. A cake, cookie, pie, chips, etc can sit in front of me and I'd be thrilled having a ribeye instead...LOL

Those highly addictive foods don't taste nearly as good as having our health back and being off of meds.

Did you watch the entire video? Smiley Happy

Re: For those who want a better understanding of a carnivore lifestyle...

@Susan Louise My DH has an autoimmunie illnes that has changed is life forever.  It's been 12 years and over time he has tried all sorts of things.  He also feels that WiFi is bad for you so we only use it occasionally in the home.  Right now I'm on my laptop using an eithernet cord.  It is a pain but what can I say?...he believes in this.

He also has been eating a very low carb diet for several years and had been on a  strict carnavore diet for several months.  He has skipped all of the goodies we all have during the holidays & birthdays....this has gone on for years.

Now has this helped him?  Maybe but it hasn't cured him.  I think it's helped that he hasn't gotten worse.

However, for some reason he has been obsessed with rich chocolate cake the last few months!  When it was his birthday in March I bought a small one and he had some.  It didn't seem to affect him in a negative way so for the last few months when there is a special occasion (like Father's Day coming up) I will get some of this chocolate cake!  This is really something new and I'm not saying one should do this or not but only my experience with DH.

As for me, I will indulge but I try to watch what I eat and mostly eat low carb.  I did lose 25 lbs two years ago and have kept most of it off.

Re: For those who want a better understanding of a carnivore lifestyle...

I was on a low carb diet....about 10 carbs a day.

It almost killed me.  My heart wasn't happy.  It caused me to go into A fib and I was passing out. I was on a controlled diet by a physician.

Some people are unaware they have kidney problems and too much protein causes more damage.

These types of diets work for losing weight and they are fast.  But, they're not safe for everyone.

It is best to have blood work done before and during these low carb, high protein diets.

This type of lifestyle can lead to heart disease or aggravate a bad heart.

Not everyone will have problems, but for those that do, the problems are severe and dangerous.

@Susan Louise have not watched the video yet.  Had to get some things ready for work tomorrow, but am familiar with the diet/lifestyle.  Will try to see it when I can.

@Susan Louise Please educate me. I thought carbs were a necessary part of one's diet. I understand a low carb lifestyle but it sounds like you are basically no carb. Would you please share what you eat in a day? I know you have said that you feel great since going carnivore.

ETA I will watch the recommended video.

@LuvSoCal  I could easily write a book trying to answer your questions. There is lots of info online about this lifestyle. Carbs are not essential whatsoever...neither is fiber.

Most days I eat OMAD - one meal a day. Depending on how hungry I am, maybe 2 meals a day. I keep my eating window within 4 hours if I do eat 2 meals in one day. The rest of the day I don't eat...just drink water or black coffee.

Why a short eating window?

Because we are not supposed to be grazing all day long and spiking our blood sugar all day. Whatever the USDA has drilled into our heads/brainwashed us with, just do the opposite and you will be healthier just based on that alone.

If you watch the video, the gentleman shows an example of the insanity he is dealing with in Canada...no different here. He mentions how his wife is a diabetic and she was fed food in the hospital that she shouldn't have been given.

Again, I could go on and on.

My DH and I will always be mad about not living this lifestyle sooner. If we had, we would never had developed all the health issues we got.

Absolute madness!

We got on that bandwagon of thinking the Adkins/keto diet back in the 80's was a fad/dangerous diet. That couldn't be further from the truth.

When I eat, it is mainly red meat...beef, lamb...occasionally pork or chicken, but not often. I find beef and lamb most satiating. On holidays DH and I will treat ourselves to seafood, smoked brisket, and prime rib.

A typical day will be a ribeye (12-14 oz) or a lb of ground lamb/beef I heat in the skillet. Sometimes I'll enjoy as 2-8 oz patties, sometimes just frying in a skillet, pouring into a bowl and sprinkling with smoked salt...yum! Sometimes I'll have just one burger and I'll have 4-6 eggs on the side (scrambled or fried with bacon fat...delish!).

Most folks would be horrified with the lack of variety. Honestly, I look forward to my meal every day and never tire of it. Sounds crazy, but it's the absolute truth.

The funny part is, as one goes from being low carb and slowly transitioning to the next levels of lowering the daily carb intake, the more freedom one has...no joke.

Freedom from what?

Freedom from health issues (for folks in most cases)

Freedom from having to take meds (again, for folks in mose cases)

Freedom from all the high cost of the meds

Freedom from sugar/carb addiction

Freedom from spending hours in the kitchen/recipes

I could go on and on...

My Health issues that are now GONE:

Lost 120+ lbs

No more HBP - now normal

AIC is now normal

No more GERD/Acid Reflux

No more joint pain

No more skin issue

Improved sleep

No more depression/brain fog

Less grey hair - no joke

Eyesight has improved - again, no joke

Went from feeling like I was in my 80's to my 30's

MEAT HEALS - The 'proper human diet'

Bottom line:

The unholy trinity - carbs/sugars/seed oils

By getting rid of what actually causes inflammation, it clears up the majority of health issues

We have been eating meat for as long as we have been drinking water and breathing air. For 99.999999% of us surviving as a species, we ate mostly meat. It wasn't until the agricultural revolution that grains were introduced about 12,000 yrs ago.

We didn't survive as a species eating Ding Dongs, pasta, Doritos, sugar filled drinks, etc...we ate meat.

For those scared of cholesterol, again, it is something the Gov/Big Food/Big Pharma pushed on us to make profit/$.

And again, we lived mainly on meat from day one.

Does anyone REALLY believe back then they worried about cholesterol?

So then...some may ask...what about fruit?

Welp, the fruit of today is NOT the fruit of thousands of years ago. Fruit has been genetically modified hundreds of times to be as sweet and as full of sugar as possible. I'm sure most have heard the term 'nature's candy'. The few nuts & berries we ate way, way back in time was only during times we couldn't find a kill/meat and for fattening up before winter...that is it...kinda like what bears do...although we didn't hibernate...LOL

These are some of who we follow on youtube:

Dr Anthony Chaffee (has lots of Q&A podcasts)

Dr Shawn Baker

Dr Ken Berry (has regular weekly Q&A podcasts)

Dr Jason Fung

Dr Eric Westman

Dr Lisa Weideman (CarnivoreDoctor - she is an eye Dr) 15 yrs carnivore

Go Keto With Casey (my age/mid 60's shares her keto lifestyle)

For those that are type-2 diabetic or pre-diabetic, they can cure it fully by changing their lifestyle.

As for type-1 diabetics, it is not as easy. I have read and watched videos to learn that those that have type-1, there are ways to simplify their life. I heard of a book titled: Dr Bernstein 's Diabetes Solution. I also have viewed many videos over the years of folks with type-1 and how they improved their lifestyle health. One video on youtube is titled:

Re: For those who want a better understanding of a carnivore lifestyle...

I eat as little carbs as possible. I found that this is good for my body. Keeps my weight down and my bs on an even keel. A win-win for me.
