If you get them too early, their effectiveness has dimished by the height of the flu season. I usually wait until the middle of October.

Where we are, they're usually available by now. In fact, DH and I traditionally get ours on the Labor Day weekend.

I get mine in September. My Dr sent a reminder. I'll get one this week.
Boosters for COVID start in late September and if the Moderna is approved mine will be due in October.
I don't like to get vaccines too close together!

I just got mine. I get it about this same time every year. I'm 73 and haven't had the flu since I was a teen and have had only one cold and that was in 2006!

We got the notice a few weeks ago from Walgreens.
Too soon for us, we wait until at least the end of this month.

The CDC website advises to get it in the middle to end of October. If you get it too soon the effectiveness wears off before the end of flu season. The pharmacies always get it in early.

It takes a couple of weeks post flu vaccine to develop adequate antibodies. Maximum protection is for the first three months after developing these antibodies.
Then coverage will gradually decline, but antibodies remain for around six months. Although, like with other vaccines, this could vary with certain individuals.
Since we see an increase in flu cases after the holidays, spiking in Jan/Feb (only had flu twice in my life, both in Feb), it's wise to discuss safe time frames with our docs, considering our individual health status.
Too early can be a mistake. My doc always says wait until Oct. Now that we're wearing masks more, I hope this next flu season will be less transmissible again.

Last year we got flu shots mid August for first time; my Pharmacist said that since we get the shots every year that there is some residual antibodies. Worked last year so we got flu shots a week ago. We want to got Moderna booster as soon as its our turn, which may be early November and we don't want to get flu vaccine too close to that date. Like many others, last year we didn't have so much as sniffles, and certainly no flu.
