As others have said - they come and go.  

I saw the eye doc the first time it happened ..... and a follow-up a month later (for another issue).  By 2nd appointment .... all gone.

I haven't had one in quite a while.

DH has had floaters for many years - an extreme case of them.  Says it is like looking thru a lace curtain.  His MD Speciality Opthamologist says she does not do surgery to remove floaters but in his case they are so severe she would consider making an exception for him.

His regular Opthamologist said "Oh my" when she first examined him.

If they come on suddenly or you have more than usual, you should get an eye exam.  They could be a sign of trouble, especially if you see light flashes with them.  I had a torn retina...nothing to fool around with.

That said, as we get older, they often appear.  I get two different types.  One type looks like knats flying around.  I sometimes swat at them....then realize they are not real bugs.

The second type I get looks like black thin oil floating on water changing shapes.  Looking at them amuses me.

I find that floaters appear when outside in the sunlight and never see them when it is darker out.  

I suppose I am used to seeing them now. They used to annoy me.  Not any more.

Yes, I have them, mainly in my right eye, some days they are worse than others.  I have a big dustball looking one that floats across my vision and some little black ones that stay  out the side.  I had a Posterior Vitreous Detachment last September and I still have them and occasional flashes. The eye doctor gave me the same advice, no big deal you will get used to them. So annoying! 

Also, in January I had one that looked like a two semicircles in my other eye that I saw every time I blinked.  I was so freaked out I went back to the eye doctor and he said it was a floater.  It stayed around about 2 months and all of a sudden it disappeared.  I'm hoping eventually the ones in my right eye will at least become less noticeable.

Floaters (as many have discussed) are normally harmless. But if they are accompanied with FLASHES OF LIGHT or loss of segment of vision. Should contact your eye care provider asap.

Yes, I've had them since I was 23. They sometimes tend to sink downward so you don't notice them as much. They are annoying, and they don't really go away. But you notice them less as time goes on.

Sometimes they can be the result of a detached retina. If you have a big one,  it might be a good idea to have it checked out.

DH had them a few years ago.  Immediately when to a retina specialist.  He was taken care of and no problems since.  I wouldn't fool around with my eyesight.

@Shelbelle  I also had floaters more than 40 years ago. I went to the eye doctor, but there was no treatment for them. They did go away after a few weeks. It was annoying.

I, also, have this problem and it took several months to get used to. I developed them apprx 10 years ago and now don't even notice them.
