Do you have “problem” feet?

I do. Mine are super narrow --with little volume and I have just a hint of arthritis. I just received a pair of SAS dressy sandals today that I'm thrilled to receive---because they're comfortable---and they're not a sneaker or Birkenstocks (I can wear them with dresses!). Now, I do love my sneakers and Birks for sure.....but I wanted something else to wear with dresses. I am curious... what are others' challenges with your feet and shoes? Anybody else love SAS shoes?

Re: Do you have “problem” feet?

I was just looking for a post about foot issues before I started one and low and behold you got one started ! Thanks !. Now for my foot issues:  Diabetes has left me with bilateral constant foot numbness and tingling. I had been on Gabapenten for about a year and my MD just took me off the medication. I'm not sure why yet, when the pharmacy tried to get the script renewed the MD would not renew. So does anyone have that foot problem and what's been the remedy for you?   Also I have a bone spur on the inside of my right foot that makes it hard to wear some shoes. I could have surgery to remove it but I'm trying not to go there.   Woman Frustrated

@Goodie2shoes @I don't have an answer for you, but I wanted to say "bless your heart!" That sounds really painful. Hope you can find relief, my friend.

Re: Do you have “problem” feet?

Not a particular problem, but I do have a hammer toe on my right foot so I am limited to some extent.

I have "issues."

  • Living in the city - I don't wear sandals - dirty streets.

  • I broke a bone in my foot quite some years ago and I'm unable to wear "heels."

  • I prefer a "solid" sole and heel no more than 1.5" ... nothing soft and springy / bouncy.

P.S.  I will never wear footwear with the brand name showing.  (Pay me if you want me to advertise your shoes.)

@Goldengate8361

I think you and I have the same feet. I have the same issues and I also had bunion surgery on one foot years ago. And long ago I had the most horrific case of plantar fasciitis that lasted for ten loooooong years. 😩

At this point I can't worry about fashion. I have to concentrate on comfort and the ability to get around safely....I also have neuropathy in my legs and feet. You'll mostly see me in a pair of New Balance tennis shoes now but I did wear SAS for quite awhile.

I say all the time that in my next life I hope to have GOOD FEET!

Re: Do you have “problem” feet?

I have no fat pads on the bottoms of my feet and the skin on the rest of my feet is hard and thick. I cannot go barefoot and if I wear shoes that make my toes rub together then I get calluses and thick hard skin between toes which is very painful. It's all part of my AI disease, scleroderma. Most people, including doctors, have no idea about scleroderma feet or how to treat them.

@PansyBoo  So I gather you no longer deal with plantar fasciitis? How'd you get rid of it, if you don't mind my asking.

Re: Do you have “problem” feet?

I have several issues, mainly with my right foot.  I have a hammer toe, which does not give me any problem because I put on my little silicone "crutch" every day. My larger issue has to do with arthritis in various areas.  I go to the podiatrist and get cortisone shots as need.  I do have a major issue with the heel on my right foot which kind of "collapses" if I stand to long.  I did have an MRI, and the results were that there are so many issues going on in that area, that not much can be done about it.  I've gotten the same opinion from my ortho doc when he also looked at the MRI results.

Life is just not as much fun as it used to be, as a result.  But given my age, things just "ain't" what they used to be!!!!!!

@BoopOMatic

This was many years ago. I had tried all kinds of different things over those ten years including at least two to three sets of very expensive orthotic inserts, cortisone shots, etc. I finally had all I could take and went on my own to see a surgeon as I was to the point I was willing to do anything. But something with my insurance required me to have to see my regular GP for his approval or referral or something even after I'd already seen the surgeon. Guess I got the cart before the horse. My GP was not in favor of surgery and asked me to see an orthopedist that he knew.

This orthopedist gave me these dinky, nothing inserts to wear in my shoes and I figured he was just nuts! All I could think was I'm waaaay past those things, Doc. Ha! He EMPHASIZED to me that I had to take NSAIDS (Advil) for around a month or more to get the inflammation down. He stressed I could not just take it for several days, feel slightly better, and then quit. I had to take them on a constant basis and could not stop. As I hate to take meds this was hard for me to do but he insisted. He also gave me stretches to do three or so times a day. Way back then stretching was controversial with some thinking it would make matters worse. I also got a boot contraption that I wore at night to keep my foot stretched. And all these things worked for me....after ten years of suffering! I got it all calmed down. And over the next year or so a slight pain might come back occasionally but it never lingered long. And then one day it was all in the rear view mirror.

So glad my GP (also a family friend) would not go along with the surgery idea. And I recall the first time or two that I went back to the orthopedist when I was getting better and better I told him HE WAS MY SUPER HERO! I truly wanted to hug him!!!
